Where did you get it done?

I did it all myself Willie. Remember when I said I do everything myself? LOL

Lot of work involved in this process. BTW I had an integrated radar detector system. Local cops do have radar detection devices and they can and will stop you if they think you are running radar. I got pulled down in Courtland Va for 10 miles over and the officer told me to give him my radar. I told him I did not have one, he said he was going to search my car and I said not without a warrant, he said he would get one, which I knew was a lie because it was Saturday and if he called a judge on Saturday about a warrant for a radar he would be put on desk duty. In the end he gave me a ticket for speeding and said guys with fancy cars like this usually integrate their radar's then he asked me in an entrapping way if that is what I had done with my car. Knowing I was being interrogated, I said, like I told you before I don't have a radar and I was sent on my way. I got a few miles down the road and another local cop was on the side of the road with his lights on and as soon as passed him he turns off his lights and pulls up along side me and looks into the car, looking for a radar detector. Like I would have been dumb enough to put it back up if I had that type of detector. He gave up after not seeing one and I continued on my way to Atlanta. Be smart about how and when you use it while in Va.

Thanks for the advice. And yes, it did involve a lot of work. Which one did you have? The M3 radar horn that is used in the system is the only one that is actually undetectable by any of the RDD's in use by LE. The horn is used in 3 or 4 other systems, and thats it. EVERY other radar detector is detectable. This one picks up those radar detectors on the road occasionally (yes here, lol) and dismisses them as JUNK (seriously, it says so in the manual). My V1 does the same thing, but it is detectable by even just VG-2. And i hear ya about courtland, va. They didnt name that town by accident! Lol, dont worry Willie. I am not going hot rodding around Norfolk just because i have the system installed. It is mostly for the cops that sit in the cuts and wait with their shit on. And it has the speed camera/speed trap/redlight cam database and utilizes GPS very accurately to let you know when one of these markers are coming up. You can also mark your own locations and put tags on them. And once i get the USB cable in, i can download updates directly from Escort and download them to the system. This thing is awesome.

I had the K40 radar detector. I like this one better. You have a lot going on in this radar. I like it enough to get one for myself, but I will have it installed.

I got bagged in Canada for using a V1. They took it and I was fined $400. Did everything by mail.

We only take the minivan to Canada now!!

They love their new V1 detector detector! A!

Huh, never knew detectors were illegal up there. That sucks though Mike. 400 for the V1 and another 400 for the fine...sheesh. Selling my V1, if anyone is interested ;-) ;-)

If you want to try a completely stealth install next time, check this out:

10221
10222

Under the dash I have a power on/off switch for border crossing or when I want it silent/off. You can pop an led warning light into the reading lamp lens as well.

I am going to put the control unit in the ashtray like you did. But i will have a guy laser etch the rear view mirror and mount it there. How did you make the mount for the control unit and display?

I apologize but I had a local Seattle shop do the install because I'd heard such great things about their work. Benchmark for all you local people. We discussed what I wanted and they offered solutions and we finally came to the perfect plan.

Due to the perfect fit, it almost looks like the modules mount into a part that was readily available and/or custom made by Escort. You could call Benchmark though. They are in Bellevue WA. http://www.benchmarkmotoring.com/

That benchmark place has some very interesting installation location on vehicles - like the subs under the dashboard but above the driver's foot well...

Resurrecting this for an update. I ended up relocating my display to the rear view mirror myself. Didn't turn out like I planned. So now I need another mirror(60-80) AND another display(190!). That was an expensive mistake...
