Eventful weekend.

After a very serious, and very generous offer on my modded E63, my vehicle situation has changed.. again.

My E63 is on a flatbed to texas right now, and there is a 2008 S65 AMG in my garage. I got an out of the blue offer on my E after someone watched a Youtube video.. and purchased this car Certified from Mercedes as a replacement.

17k miles, and as perfect as a used car can look i suppose. 4 year, 100k warranty for safety.

I'm back on the turbo side of the world. The lack of torque from the NA V8 in the E always left me wanting something. The 738 ft/lbs in this should do it. It flies.

It is rather quiet however.. so i'll be on with USP tomorrow and within a week or two, it will be uncorked. I don't know what a V12 BiTurbo sounds like catless.. but it we'll find out. Software will follow.

Wanted to share with my RS6 brothers.

Hot damn Batman,

Do you need a pool boy or yard boy or just a poor schmuck to run errands? We were promised change in 2008 and now all I have is change in my pocket. I had to beg on the street corner to buy my RS4 wheels then Pat tells me to get the jack out of my rear end. No respect I tell ya. Who wants to play 18 for a grand a hole? Spot me 5 and we shall call it good.

I cant wait to see/hear the exhaust on that monster.

Congrats. The (forest) interior is not for me, otherwise a perfect combination.

That's a Bad looking Ride there bro. And with that much Torque on tap, its all over. One of these days I'll catch you over there at USP. Good luck with the new Monster.......................

just got back from a meeting with USP. Had the car on the lift.

Little did i know, the S65 doesn't have secondary cats or resonators. It just has two huuge primary cats within the downpipes.

Next week we are making custom downpipes (catless of course) and an X-Pipe. I should see some very nice power gains, and some serious sound.

Will update with video and dyno results when done.

Very ncie ride! How much does that thing weigh? Im sure it's a rocket either way though. Ive never been a fan of the wood grain accents, but it's really not that bad on this car.

Congratulations!

I've driven a CL65AMG (very rare bird) and it is ridonkulously fast! It's deceptive, though, because it's so quiet and smooth, so I understand why you'd want a bit more bark to go with the bite.

Enjoy it.

One of my all time favorite sedans! Those 65's go like a bat out of hell! Looks fantastic in white. Enjoy!

Thank you all for the supportive comments! And my Merc salesman wonders why i only post here instead of the merc forums.. lol. He doesn't understand the culture on this site.

I've done research over the past 4 days. I've contacted Renntech, Kleeman, and several other companies - and as far as anyone can tell - i will be the first in the world to do the custom catless downpipes on a 65. I'm expecting a pretty decent power gain. The cats are monsterous. Considering i gained a proven 25hp to the wheels with the 63 motor from removing the primary cats.. and this is a turbo car.. i'm hoping to gain that much if not more opening this one up. The cats are in the same spot as the pre-cats on the RS6. We all know there is power to be gained by gutting or removing the pre-cats on the RS, so i'm optomisitc. Plus, you all know how obsessed i am with exhausts - so i should hear the V12 and turbos pretty clearly. :)

Again, thanks, and i'll update with pics, a video and a dyno sheet when completed.

how much $ is a chip, and what kind of figures are people seeing from them? I've thought about a used s65 with ext warranty... not anytime soon, but always pays to be aware of options...

The software that I will be using is from EVOmsIT. The cost is $2900. The figures are 670hp and 850ft/lbs. After the software, intercooler pump, and catless downpipes i expect to be around 730-740hp, 900-910ft/lbs to the crank. It will be dyno'd before and after every item - so i'll have actual data to report.

At motorway speeds this thing is going to be wicked. Looking forward to see this!

There is one of the SL65 AMG here in San Diego (Grossmont center area) that has some thing(s) done to it as you can here the turbos spooling immediately and not in an Evo way..,
The exhaust is not quiet at all.
Tire churper...

I love the S65 and the V12 Biturbo (I had a 2005 CL65). However, you will not be the first 65 to run custom down pipes with deleted cats. I know of quite a few fellow 65 and 600 owners who have done this mod. I didn't do this myself. You are going to trigger a CEL unless the tuner specifically tunes out the CEL. Even if you don't want to post on mbworld....you should probably check out some of the biturbo and 65 sections for some good info. I had only a Kleemann ECU tune, BMC drop-in filters and a Johnson CM30 I/C pump upgrade and IU made 575+rwhp. I am sure with cat deleted you should see closer to 600rwhp.

Good luck!

The lack of torque from the NA V8 in the E always left me wanting something. The 738 ft/lbs in this should do it.

HUGE understatement! ;)

Fonzie Audi
July 23rd, 2010, 19:40
Thanks Tom :). The software company knows about the catless DP's - so the CEL will be taken care of. I was able to find some spots about a couple SL's and CL65's doing the mod; but wasn't able to find a single S65 with it done. I think you're right.. after software, i/c pump, DP's and filters i should see around (or hopefully slightly above) 600 rwhp. I'm gonna be optomistic - but it'll be interesting to see how the dyno runs go after each mod.

Benman - i didn't realize how addicting torque is until i sold my RS6. I don't think i'll ever be able to buy a NA car again. I missed my RS6 every day after i sold it. Torque is king.

I'd have to agree about torque and turbos. My next vehicle will likely be diesel. ;)

Dear Fonzie Audi,

i like the Mercedes V12 Biturbo engine a lot, very potential. The 5-speed transmission is also very tough-, not to mention is doesnt have to shift a lot. :hihi:

I once had a AMG SL65 Black Series for a weekend and this has been one nice car, to say the least. :hahahehe:

...my congratulations by the way! :0:

I have not driven a n/a car in nearly 20years.

You mean cars/trucks/motorhomes comes without turbos and superchargers?

Do you have a pic of the factory IC setup on the V12? I know why the 55 AMG engine needs the Johnson IC pump.....but why does the biturbo setup need it?

The I/C cores sit right on top of the engine:

http://www.absolutelydriven.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2949&highlight=filter

You can see the cores (silver boxes) in the 4th picture.

The stock Bosch I/C pumps were completely unreliable when they first came out (in both 55K and V12 Biturbos). The Johnson pumps (unless CM90) are not swapped in to increase overall flow, but provide better reliability. My original Bosch pump was replaced because it would intermittently stop working. Supposedly the latest generation of Bosch pumps are much more reliable.
