Have a nice weekend

I started looking through an prior year invoice when I had a new tranny put in. I had asked the techs to be very pro active with all the seals and gaskets. They replaced a lot of sundry parts at my request. You guessed it, the $10 part was on the list and now this current engine pull has been approved by AoA due to the 12K/12 month warranty (I was 500 miles under). I also have a vacuum leak under the manifold that is also now being repaired at very little cost. In addition, I'm having the following done while the motor is out to be pro-active:

EGT- Bank 1
(2) Primary O2 Sensors
Both valve cover gaskets
Check Intercooler (I will also make a physical inspection- Dhall do you think I should stick with OEM- ;0)
All vacuum hoses other than the Ven air set
O-Ring connections at rear engine coolant pipe (thanks for that input on another thread Pat!)
After run coolant pump (thanks again Pat)

I'm considering have a starter put in as it has never been replaced.

Any other input or recommendations are welcome.

And "some" laugh at me for demanding only Audi parts.

Ha

Idjuits

Intercoolers? Did someone say intercoolers? We all know where I stand there.

Oh boy I better get the fire suit on now.

Max, By the time you're done, you're going to have a completely new, 8 yo car! Great seeing you at the track.
Dave, You pretty much live in that flame suit don't you~

The dealer knows how to mark stuff up. It is a 5-7 hours job depends on how much time you spend on cleaning other parts.

Wowza! They are pulling the entire engine. Sounds like the above cuts down the work signficantly and thanks for the info. If it was on my dime, I'd certainly be discussing this other option further to cut down the bill. Oh well- it is on their dime and I'm going to have them do some other maintenance while they play their game. It will allow me to have a lot of parts covered for 12 month/12 K and get some new gaskets/seals/o2 sensors/etc. put in & a vacuum leak issue resolved. However; I always cringe some when the engine is pulled.

I don't think they pulling the engine, just bill for it.

I totally believe that. When i went in for DRC, i got a 2005 A4 Enterprise rental from the dealer. The service department covered it, $34/day. I go to get my rental from the same desk for the collision damage, and they are charging my insurance 42.50/day. Granted its a 2010 A4, but they said it didnt matter. That is the flat luxury rate billed to insurance. Seems to me that they are doing that to get through my $900 limit just a little quicker so that i have to pay for the rental. Which kills me, cause once i am paying for it, it goes back to the 34/day rate! It has nothing to do with their insurance either, cause it is declined in both cases. Can you believe that?

They are pulling the engine as I am having them do some work that requires the engine pull (EGT sensor, passenger valve gasket, primary O2 sensors, etc.) during this warranty repair. I am also going to go by their shop to inspect and go over with the mechanic other items to address while the engine is out. Unless the mechanic is the below, I think my eyes will be able to tell if the engine is out or not...;0

Hello Pat:
The car went into the shop yesterday. I will visit the shop either later this afternoon or tomorrow morning to look it over and discuss with the tech.

Update- Visited the patient at the shop and they are close to pulling the engine as they have a lot of the parts off/disconnected. I have weeping intercoolers so both will be getting replaced. Once they actually have the engine pulled, I'll go back over there for some more chat time with the tech. I welcome comments and suggestions. Next time I go over there, I'll snap some pics for entertainment purposes.

Intercoolers? Did someone say intercoolers.

Run! Run! Run for your lives. The attack of the killer Audi intercoolers is about to spread.

Update- Motor pulled

Culprit part was a seal in the oil pump (seal and/or water tube) part #077 117 411 a and part # 077 121 437. This may be something to consider during maintenance repairs. However; if the oil pump can be replaced without pulling the engine as TozoM8 states above, it would not be such a major repair.

Culprit parts that was causing small amounts of coolant to leak intermittently that started this slippery slope. It looks like Christmas around my car (new intercoolers, new under shield, various gaskets & seals, sensors, after run pump, etc..,etc...)---
