After a long deliberation Audi has finally made a decision. The RS5 sports coupe will make it to the US market: "We have voted on it and the car is coming over definitely. But it will be more than a year out from the start of deliveries in Western Europe." This marks the first RS model to be sold in the U.S. since the untimely death of the Audi RS4 Cabriolet in 2008 and it is about time. Some of us have still not gotten over the fact that the RS3 wasn’t offered on our side.

It is rumored that the US price will be in the $69,500 area, but for a fully equipped RS5, you will have to pay around $75K.

The RS5 is powered by a turbocharged V8 engine with a total output of 450 bhp at 8250 rpm and a maximum output of 317 lbs-ft of torque between 4,000 and 6,000 rpm. The engine is mated to a seven-speed S tronic transmission that can operate in fully automatic mode – or the driver can shift via the innovative selector lever or shift paddles on the steering wheel. The car weighs only 3,802 lbs and sprints from 0 to 60 mph in 4.6 seconds. Top speed is limited to 155 mph, but it can be increased to 173 mph.

We are anxious to take a look at the Audi RS5 up close. Offhand, we can say that, with the exclusion of the convertible top, the RS5 will be a much bigger success than the RS4 due to an increase in horsepower and a cheaper price tag. The fact that the Audi RS5 is even sailing over to our side is enough to boost its sales.

Is it just me, or should the 317 lbs-ft of torque read more like 417? The engine should basically be the same as ours...just a little more refined. Maybe we will start seeing the 7-speeds for sale out of europe, lol.

There's an error in that article.

The engine is not turbocharged, but an N/A high revving V8.

Yeah, i was just reading up on that point. Good catch. If so, i know quite a few people on here would be scrambling...instead of paying an extra 35k for a euro RS6 over here, lol. Too bad...

What source are you using?

And just to let you know, there's no RS3 on this side of the pond either...

I need a performance Avant!

Dammit quit sending these POS Q5s over here to the US.

At the very least send the S4 Avant. Please for the love of Pete. My wife is going to end up with a Subaru if Audi does not get their $hit together. Hello? She drives a 500hp E55 but wants a performance Avant.....Hello? The A6 with 3.0T does not cut it.

There is a white C6 RS6 avant driving around the twin cities, don't know how it got here, but now there is a car in the area that I have to submit to.

What about the RS600 that was patrolling the area? Until 10Secs4 took it towards the east coast... at Mach 3.5

Poor Dave, Pat just opened the doors for Mrs. Hall to demand a C6 Avant...

I want the TTRS. At least it is turbocharged and can be chipped/flashed for a good power bump. What can you do to a normally aspirated RS5? 5~10bhp maybe with a better exhaust, which OEM is getting harder and harder to beat.

Couldnt you get a tune for the NA S4 and RS4 V8 for like 20 hp? granted, thats alot of money for not alot of bump ;-) But im sure they(MTM) will come out with a bolt on supercharger and exhaust package as soon as it comes out...

They claim around 20bhp jump on the NA cars but most dyno tests show closer to 10~15 with a flash and exhaust. The S5 MTM supercharger kit is only $25000. Kind of an expensive upgrade, and that price is for the kit, not the install which adds another $3000, but then you get the MTM guarantee whatever that means.

Good lord, might as well sneak a C6 into the states for that much!

+1

I would buy a TTRS in a second. The TTRS makes a perfect mate to the RS6. You want to cruise in comfort...RS6.....you want to rip the mountains up...TTRS.

RS5 does nothing for me. Just another big boat with a n/a engine.

Once BMW adds AWD to the M cars, Audi will have to close it's doors in the US

There was a post about 4 months about about a BMW M5 AWD 525-530HP (prototype maybe)..
What are they gonna call it?
xM5 -> sounds like another Scion
Mx5 -> already taken by Mazda

Audi does things for a reason. Look at the sales figures. Q5 is selling very, very, very well for Audi. And that's with the V6 as the only engine option. BMW 3 series/ 5 series wagons made up only 2% of sales volume. Impossible to do anything but with such numbers.

I bet they would just call it an M5 with xdrive. I don't see that as likely an Alpina B5 with xdrive. I can see myself getting serious about an Alpina B7 with xdrive in about 5 years. I am now addicted to turbos.

Dave, the wife could do worse than a Subie.

Sometimes the prices for foreign cars never make sense. The Euro has dropped 15~20% against the dollar in the last few months so that should make the R8 V8 a 100K car but the prices never really reflect that, just some kind of median exchange value. The Euro car makers made a killing at the exchange rate in 2001~2003 but the exhange rate had to be tough for them up until the last few months.
