Trying to help him decide on a new car.

What do you guys think?

He's like a die hard Mercedes Guy. My Dad is 70 and very old school. If he sees a nice looking car he'll say "look....they're trying to copy Mercedes"

So Naturally he wants the new 600.

He also will not pay more than $135K.....for any car no matter how good it is because it is a waste to spend so much money on a car. (Where he grew up there were only Horses)....so I guess the Maybach is out of the question.

So my question to you.......what car do you guys feel is just the ultimate grand tourer for under that price?

Thanks.

p.s. He drives everyday of the week an average of 50 miles.

Well... an A8 is a "better" car but its a bit more sporty.... the Merc is a real comfort car.

maybe a lexus LS 430... they are top in comfort

steve,

thanks of the input.....yeah the new Audi 8's are wicked.....hmmmmmmm how can i put this delicately without everyone crapping on me........well i can't so i'll just say it......he thinks other german brands are inferior to good old merc.

but i'm gonna force him to test drive an audi A8/S8......i'm not a big bimmer fan but maybe he can test drive one of those too.

and as for the lexus.....well.....if he thinks audi and bmw are red-headed step children.....you don't wanna know what he thinks of toyota. :mouthshut

The Audi A8 W12 will get my vote, that's if they fast forward the launch date a few months...

thecakid,

You don't mind if I change this thread into a poll, Including these cars?

Mercedes S600
Lexus GS430
Audi A8 W12
Audi A8 4.2L
BMW 7 series (big doubts about this winning the poll)
Jaguar XJR

Edit: Bleh...too complicated to change the thread into a poll

S 55 Kompressor

BRABUS K8, 550 hp / 405 kW, 780 Nm at 3,000 rpm
S 600

BRABUS 6.7 V12 increased capacity engine, 450 hp / 331 kW, 635 Nm at 4,300 rpm
BRABUS 6.7 S V12 increased capacity engine, 475 hp / 349 kW, 650 Nm at 4,200 U/min
S 600 Biturbo

BRABUS T12 performance kit, 570 hp / 419 kW, 900 Nm from 1,900 rpm
BRABUS SV 12 Biturbo increased capacity engine, 640 hp / 471 kW, 1,026 Nm from 1.750 rpm, 310 km/h (electronically limited)

greets mjrr

In fact I'm a real audi fan, but if your dad don't like it, you have to go to the nex best ;)

you're forgetting the part about "nothing over $135K".

If it was me i'd make him drive the "inferior" A8. My dad used to be a BIG Merc buff as well. But now he actually admits the A8 is BETTER!!!  It's worth a try.

...kind of important....thanks.

and thanks to everyone that responded........really great cars........i think we're gonna head for the audi dealer first (and hopefully the only one). That new A8 just looks so bad ass! :trans:

thanks again and i'll keep you posted of what happens.

gonna check out that S600 also.......but only "after" the 8!

i know it's over the 135K...but what's 15K in that price range.....right?

it would be a shame not to at least try and test drive that VW :D

Let him test drive the A8. The W12 will be released next year.

Otherwise the CLxxx may be interesting.

Does it have to be such a large car?
if not: maybe new E55?
or other wise if it has to be big: the CL600?

greetzzz,

matteus

yeah..
my dad is also a merc fan (we're turkish and with turks its kinda like "if you drive a merc youve made it")

i have been begging him (for a year) to buy the new a8..
and 3 months ago he told me that he liked the a8 better then the merc.. (he said he liked me begging all the time :P )
so he will order an a8 3.7 in 3 months or so..
his E 2.4 is starting to give up..

anyways..
i think i will drive the a8 more then him :P
