Can anyone confirm the placement of the hall sensor on the transmission?

On the RS6, does the sensor go in the upper hole or the lower hole closest to the front flange?

Also, if anyone knows, why are there two holes? I'm assuming only one is used? Does the other one just get plugged or remain open?

Lower hole. The upper is for a different engine.

Trans originally came from the A8 W12. Audi then beefed/modified it for the RS 6.
