Does anyone know the vacuum hose specifications (diameter, type, etc) for the stock vacuum lines?

I am going to replace all of the small vacuum hoses this weekend as I now have a 'small leak' on bank 2. I eyeballed the lines when I did the spark plugs, but see what that got me! :)

Anyone have any info on the different manufactures, brands, grades, etc??

Thank you,

Mike

You want to use silicone hose, 3.5mm I.D. I get mine at ECS Tuning, but opinions of that particular retailer vary.

3.5 ID eh. Good to know. Anyone have a guess on how many feet roughly. :)

"HoseTechniques Platinum silicone vacuum hose are very different from the standard Silicone Vacuum hose you may find on the market. HoseTechniques Platinum silicone vacuum hose is manufactured with a platinum curing process as opposed to peroxide for example. This special Platinum curing process offers an increase in tensile strength (5%+), elongation (50%+), and tear strength (10%+) over peroxide cured silicone, making these silicone vacuum lines perfect for high performance motors. Platinum curing also makes the vacuum hose more supple and more resistant to nicks and tearing."

If I remember correctly, it takes about 8 feet to do all of the 3.5mm vacuum lines.

I bought the hose techniques kit for my 1.8t. nice stuff, but pricey... I used all the 3.5mm stuff, but ended up not using all of the kit, as the larger diameter tubes didn't seem as stout as the stock bits, which were in good shape. It was the cloth-covered rubber 3.5mm hose that had deteriorated.

For the beast, I bought ten feet of 3.5mm ID thick-walled silicone hose off ebay for 12 bucks. That's right, 12 bucks.

I have to say for all intents and purposes it looks the same... very strong walls, hooked a piece up to my dipstick tube oil-suction rig and couldn't collapse it. hit it with the heat gun, it held up.

It doesn't have magic platinum dust, however.

I have seen some 3.5mm silicone hose at the local riceroni fart-can muffler supply shack. Steer clear of that crap, very wimpy and thin. Thin-walled silicone collapses easier than a mortgage-backed security.

Just ordered the Tubing from ECS...
Yesterday I reset the CEL and now I have an error on both Banks.....maybe it's the air pump...we shall see

I have a warrantee which will cover this but my local Audi dealer has been relieved of all the techs I know....the other guys are unknowns and the guy who I have had work on my car works for a local non-audi repair shop. I'm not sure if I can get warrantee work done other than at Audi dealer.

The other option is a day or more at the dealer an hour away. I'd rather just order ALL the possible parts (pump etc) and arrive with all the parts in the trunk already. It's cheaper than running back and forth seven times as the order the 'next part.'

I was wondering what you would use to clamp the hoses.. I hate zip ties and they will expand slightly with heat - get brittle etc. To reuse the factory stuff - tricky if they tubing OD is not the same. Found some clamps at www.newageindustries.com OETIKERŪ CLAMPS.
And other tubing choices www.hiperformancestore.com /hose by the foot The YouTube demo they have looked interesting.
Or if your feeling the wealth Viton seems to be the ducks nuts but pricey and the wall thinkness is a concern. Anything i found seemed pretty thin and may kink or restrict flow.
Any thoughts??

It's not necessary to use clamps when you use the silicone hoses. They fit DAMN tight, they are almost impossible to pull back off once they're on there. I've been running the silicone hose sans clamps for 23k miles now.

V8weight, I am glad you posted that! I was going to use zip ties LOL...did not think they would not hold up to heat, D'ooh.
I ordered the hose yesterday...waiting...
