assuming i can run the wire over to the fuse box, where do i tap in for an power source? the V1 comes with a clip that i can just pop onto an existing wire, and it has a small metal tooth that punctures the wire plastic cover, drawing power without having to do anything fancy

If you put it behind the rearview mirror, you can power it from the sunroof motor. It will be switched on by the ignition.

ok thanks. is it difficult to open it up to get to the sunroof motor? Is the sunroof motor near the sunroof switch? I see that plastic cover panel, but don't want ot open things up unneccesarily, since it seems they rarely go back together as well as they came apart!

ok it was easy to open up the plastic panel, and it looks like there's a clip with 4-5 wires (tan colored with various stripes) that go to the sunroof switch. which of those do i tap into? as for the ground, should i use the screw that goes into the roof, it appears to be holding up the plastic to the roof... i presume it's anchored to the car's steel body?

I have this http://cgi.ebay.com/Escort-Passport-SRX-Radar-Detector-/170583947979?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item27b7987acb built in and it works perfect. They discontinued it so ebay only.
