Ok, I have searched and have tried to remember any thread about fans:

So, without further ado....
When John's car was prepped to be lifted, the fans on his car didn't run/start. Then after installing the Sportec cooling mod with John (Audi5000cstq) this weekend, I noted that John's car had the fans running, with about a 3 hour cool down, from start up. Then once he shut down, the fans ran for about 10 seconds and then off.

I have had my car for about 9 weeks now and can't remember, if ever, the fans coming on after shutting down. Not to say it has been overly hot but last week it was upper 80's...

I had a POST purchase inspection, just to see if there was something (DRC leaks, codes) to be warned about. They also ran a diagnostic scan on the computer (checking for codes) and nothing came up.

So now I am concerned...
It might simple as the wiring connection is dirty or loose or disconnected...

Thoughts, suggestions?

Usually it will throw a cooling system code if there is something wrong with the fans. Is your temp at a reasonable level?

What you described John's, is what mine was doing last fall. When was the last time he replaced his thermostat? They can fail slowly - not nessesarily all of a sudden. This is my GUESS, that yours is running fine and John may need a new thermostat in the near future.

The fans are not supposed to run on after you shut the motor off.. unless you have been really driving it hard, like on the track..
These motors instead have a turbo pump that run on after shutdown to circulate coolant thru the turbos to cool them. you can sometimes barely hear it..
If the fans run from cold start till after you switch off, its most likely a thermostat or coolant sensors that are acting up. They are not supposed to run until the motor reaches a certain temp and then switch off.
As far as any third party cooling mods, this can alone be the cause of altered performance by the fans that cant be used to judge an unaltered one.

Funny you should ask the temp as the oil temp before the Sportec cooling mod was ±175F and now it is relatively the same, maybe 10F cooler but it definitely take more time to get to ±165F. Hard to tell with the oil gauge as it is tiny... and analog

did john have his a/c on?

do you have your a/c on?

go out start the car w/a/c off............let run 20sec............turn on a/c.........pop hood..........with the engine running and a/c on............do your fans come on? Drink 2 beers then call me in the morning.

DHall1, too funny! But good point.

The VAGCOM will show and error message if the fans are running too long. Mine does this once in a while, I just clear the code. I had a temp sensor changed about a year ago, and that 'fan staying on issue' came up, I had to reset the code a couple of times, the fans shut down, and are normal. Fortunately the only time the fans have stayed on is when I return home (where the computer and VAG COM are LOL). Otherwise if I let it run (when it does this error) it will run at FULL SPEED for about 10 minutes. When Driving you can hear it!

The actual site of the flaw is more difficult to track down though! I was planning on slimply hitting the new sensor's wire harness connection with contact cleaner this past saturday when I was changing the plugs, but figured I'd best leave it alone.

Thanks I was joking with Ben.

Ben, I dont quite follow your question. Can you make it simple for us challenged?
