WOW!! This is awesome. Dave send him an email from the ebay site and invite him over. I just found a site that reports the Audi S5 manual has clutch issues. I dont know how wide spread this is but Audi is really losing its flavor with me. I just sent the seller a message.

Audi is trying it's best to make enemies of all of us. How can corporate be so stupid, they have come so far since the late 70's and early 80's fiascos with poor quality and stupid American drivers (5000 Unintended Accel).

This same arrogance has killed GM and Chrysler. Audi has already gotten in the arrogance line it seems.

Can the part be taken to a machine shop to duplicate? Depending on the number of miles and how driven- I might be tempted to have the entire transmsission rebuilt if I planned on keeping the car for a signficant time.

Very nice executive panel consumer policy. I'd love to hear the decision maker's (I'm sure long thought out and intelligence beyond comprehension) reasoning of why they know best. Obviously- they should provide the options and let the consumer decide for their own risk and "consumer experience" what works best for their own specific situation. It sounds eerily like health care policies headed to your local IRS office..;0

That went well.

Love Audi's PR people. Don't forget the installation cost of that $7000 new transmission
But let's be fair. $7000 for a brand new transmission is a lot less than I would have guessed!!!

I'm confused why he didn't just buy the part from ZF. AFAIK you can get every single part individually. There's even a parts list on their website.

Like I said. Dont mess with RS6.com

I was wondering how IPT, Level10 and Tozo sourced parts for their rebuilds.

too funny that Audi NA would not direct this owner to the right place. Kinda shows you how sleezy they can be. Instead of helping an owner....try to screw them and make a 7000 dollar sale that for the most part would end that owners relationship with Audi.

That is how you lose customers. I guess RS6 customers are just falling out of trees these days. Eh Audi NA. Idiots.

Yo you back in SoCal? We may be planning a RS6 attack on Julian before the temps get too hot. John and I have a big option winner in the works and he wants the Revo and then a rematch on Julian. You in?

hey-

this is my ebay listing.

btw, i did track down ZF in the USA and tried to get parts directly but couldn't. if they sell parts direct the switchboard operator didn't know that. i was transferred to a sales person but he said he only usually deals with dealers or people with accounts and he said he wasn't sure that they sold to someone like me. he said he would see if someone could help me but i never heard back. anyway, i think the point is that AUDI would not sell me the parts or help me get them, not that i was not good enough to figure out how to get them out of ZF.

another interesting thing- after this whole debacle i reviewed the service records the original owner gave me on this car and the transmission had already been replaced once under warranty earlier in its history. it looks like these transmissions last about 25,000 to 35,000 miles.

i could have bought a salvage transmission from shokan coachworks, but going that route had issues also such as shipping it in and then being possiblity caught between shokan and my transmission shop if something went wrong with it.

my first audi was an audi gt way back when i was in college. after that i bought an audi 100 and took it up to 130,000 miles. later i bought a new S4. the last audi i will ever buy was the R6. after i got the transmission fixed i traded it in at a dealer for an infiniti G35xS- less horsepower but otherwise a terrific car.

Mike,

Sorry for the problems. Too bad you didnt find the forum when you had the problems. The transmission is a known failure point and a couple of owners have had Audi pay for the repair even out of warranty. That said, most of us have long term extended warranties and plan to stick it to Audi over the years while we enjoy the cars. My car is covered to 2015 and oh do I plan to get my transmissions done before the warranty expires. Audi should know better.

Thanks for posting.

I've never seen one go bad unless they damaged it when they take it out. One has to come out to get to the reverse clutch.

I hear ya. Most all of us enjoy these rockets and live with the few glitches. Why? I dont see Chevy coming out with a AWD 4 door with V8 twin turbo.

So what to do? Cover your bet with the best extended warranty. 6/72 was my choice and the transmission can blow up 3 times for all I care.
