I watched this couple of days ago... I wonder... Is this MP4 in the line with 458 Italia, or maybe better...?

I think the plan is for it to compete with the F458 and LP570-4 but only time will tell as to whether it's better or worse.

MP4-12C is pure masterpiece and by far the best car in its class. My friend will handle the import for ex-YU markets and I have all possible info about McLaren. Ferrari 458 Italia is let we say on second place after McLaren. All others are in the distance...

I really think McLaren is on another level...but not just one...let's say 2-3 over 458 italia..I'm pretty sure also that Porsche will accept this new challenge and will finally push hard the 911's development

Very neat video. Would be nice to see those two very talented drivers be involved in final development of the car. Sort of in a way similar to Sena with the NSX.

Well, dayUM, no shortage of photos there!

Overall very nice just lacking a little of the "wow" factor of the original. Plus, not entirely sold on the Star Trek logo. ;)

They are planning a "higer up" model to compete with the memory of the "Macca", no?

I agree. The steering wheel looks like it's from a kit car with that centre.

I'm sure it will be a hell of a car, but the design leaves me a bit unprovoked.

I predict this will be the winner of EVO's eCOTY 2011.

i love this car, the concept, the execution....... no doubt in my mind it will be as fast or faster than the italia. and will probably be even faster or on the same level as the upcoming italia scuderia roadcar.

i hate the logo. too simple and dull. and i wish it had a manual option. but those are my only criticisms. my first impression of the steering wheel was that of a cheap kit car type of thing, but on closer inspection it looks like it is quite nice and is just that it doesn't photograph well. the materials look very audi-like.

thanks for posting such great, real-life pics. i feel like i;ve just seen it in real life.

let's see if it beats the GT2 RS's ring time!

Oh, and Porsche says this car will lap the Nürburgring Nordschleife in 7 minutes, 18

Hate to break this to you but records aren't broken by somebody telling people that they've been broken. The requirements for evidence are a bit stronger than that. The GT2 RS is undoubtedly a great car but the requirement for evidence remains the same. Every other car with a sub-7:30 time has a video. Porsche does not, draw your own conclusions.

Being capable of a 7:18 time and actually doing it are 2 different things. Maybe Porsche didn't want a dead test driver on their hands.

well, that is a never ending argument. you can have a video that "proves" something yet one always wonder about the results when you don't know how the car could have been set up (i.e software alterations, tire set-up, etc.... especially when no one else can replicate the results on the video). of course i am referring to the GTR. but just so you know i apply my rules equally, i will wait to see what SA gets with the car. but something tells me it will be right on the money.

by the way. i mention the GTR as an example and not as fodder for more discussion and personal issues since this has been beaten to death. the subject is the GT2 RS. period.

You can have a 9s 100m run at the Olympics that might have been set by someone off their face on speed but until someone proves them to have been on speed, it still counts. However, if I write in to the IAF and say I've ran 8 seconds. It doesn't count worth a shit. Do you understand?

SA are always right on the money with 911s but the requirement for a video still stands regardless of who the lap is done by.

Exactly. You'll notice that other times also have a '.X' in the time (e.g. 7:26.7), because they're official times with video evidence, whereas Porsche just quotes 7.18.

well, it's kind of like you belonging to a gay club that swaps partners all the time, and you going around telling everyone how big your boyfriend's dick is, but no one believing you because they've tried him and it's nowhere the size you swear by, even though you videotaped it and posted it. everyone knows you loaded him up with viagra, cialis, levitra, and a vacuum pump but you keep insisting it really is that way because you caught it on vid. yeah, it is a really simple concept. and most people on the planet have understood it. it's just that you keep confusing the cause for the effect.

This is a family forum keep it clean.

But let's just quickly demonstrate that your argument has no grounds.

1) The GTR has comfortably outperformed the Turbo and GT3 in almost all other tests and even outperformed the GT2 in many (except with Sport Auto).
2) The GTR got within 9s of its claim with SA (2009 model - 7:29). The ZR1 only got within 12s of its claim.
3) No non-911s besides hypercars ever break 7:38 with Sport Auto.
4) None of Sport Autos Porsche laps (e.g. the 7:33 for the GT3 RS) are on video.
5) 911s perform far better (relative to other cars) with SA than any other mag.
6) The GT3 RS beat the 458 on HHR Short with SA which is patently ridiculous looking at other tests.

So, you see, it looks like SA is the one fitting their favourite brand with a 'strap-on'.

It's actually the Porsche that appears better than it is with SA and can't perform to the same standard anywhere else.

Magnificent. It doesn't have the looks or the brand pull of the Ferarri 458, but it will deliver on performance and build quality. The engineering in this thing is extraordinary. I think this car is destined to be one of the greats. I can't wait to see it in the metal.
