Gents,

Just trying to determine which "prepping" our engine blocks receive in place of the standard cast iron sleeves found in "normal" aluminium blocks.

Thanks in advance!

I am aware that all FSI engines are Alusil without question but nowhere can I find details about the pre-FSI engines.

Well, I can tell you without a doubt at very least the head uses Alusil. I don't think Audi would use that for the head then Nikasil for the block, but who knows.

Well it seems that to rebuild these engine requires either to renew the alusil bores of install sleeves. No cheap option either way really.

I guess I will just have to see how good the standard bottome end is without a rebuild.

Unless your putting over 900hp your wasting your time and money, the short blocks are way over engineered. Just look at the 2.7t, totally different engine, but perfect example of Audi over engineering the turbo motors. They have seen mid 600's with stock short blocks.

I was planning on simply upgrading the rods to H-Beam items as i know the MAHLE pistons are very good units.

As i will be unable to hone, re-ring the engine I will keep is stock as is and see how it fairs.

cheers

Agree. The Gumpert Apollo is using the same block I believe and develops up to 800hp;

One thing I've always wondered with the Apollo is where they source the engines from? Is it NOS, or does Audi still produce these for them?
