Well, I've been taking my car to this same shop since I had my first car. I'm young, but its been almost 10 years. Sadly the person who I used to deal with left a few years ago, and I'm dealing with new people. My S4 never had any issues so I didnt have to worry about it, and my A4 I did all the work on myself with the help of a close family friend who does jobs out of his garage for fun.
Anyways, now that I got the RS6 I decided to bring it to the shop for the 65k service (I know it's really just an oil change but I want it on the books for warranty purposes). All went good and after taxes it was $141, but they had some interesting notes. First, they said the drive belts needs replacement since the belt is cracking($255 job). Second, they said Oil is leaking either from either the valve cover gasket or the cam chain tensioner seals....$98 to inspect and I'm sure spendy to do work.
Normally this would seem ok, BUT I had a pre purchase inspection(PPI) done on my car before I bought it from Carousel Audi less than 1000 miles ago. The inspectionlooks for many things on teh vehicle but more related to my post it checks for leaks under the vehicle, and even specifically the drive belt for any damage. Well, the PPI said the drivebelt is fine, and didn't list anything about any leaks at all. This makes me think the shop is trying to rip me off, so I decided to go under the car myself and check it out. The belts from what I can see look perfect, and there are no signs of leaks anywhere. Mind you the space is tight under the vehicle so space to see is limited.....but it seems to me the shop saw my temporary tags and thought I didnt know squat about the car. What do you think? Is there an easier way to check for the so called leak besides under the vehicle? That's all they would have seen doing the oil change. My car was there no longer than 1.5-2 hours so I know they didnt pull anything apart....I want some opinions before I call this shop out.
