Who is going?

Initially, we meander along the Mulholland Highway (circa 1925) through the Santa Monica Mountains but Clinton’s route diverts us onto several remote and technical by-ways with breath-taking, scenic vistas overlooking the Pacific Ocean… even to Channel Islands (depending on visibility). Included is the mighty Yerba Buena leg considered one of the best technical drives in Southern California. Along this remote, very tight, 12 mile menagerie of 188 successive turns, most fauna is endangered.

Automakers frequently make use Yerba Buena to shoot television commercials.

The drive includes Latigo Canyon Road, the quintessential canyon road with 166 turns, going inland from the beach. Despite it's degree of technicality, it's much easier to drive than the Yerba Buena.

Turning South just this side of Ventura Co. line, you’ll enjoy the grandeur of Pacific Coast Highway two times before the final turn inland to climb to our casual lunch spot [tentatively Froggy’s] where you can recount today’s Audi experiences.

IMPORTANT: Passengers AND drivers susceptible to motion sickness are strongly advised to take Dramamine or equivalent.

MEET/TIMETABLE: *Village Coffee Roasters, 23351 Mulholland Drive, Woodland Hills. Arrive/ Sign-in 8:30 –9:00 am. Mandatory driver’s briefing 9:05 am. First group out 9:15 followed by 2nd group. We will try to stay on this schedule.

*101 Fwy Exit 29, Mulholland Drive/Valley Circle Blvd Woodland Hills CA. Observe all roadway markings to ensure LEGAL left turn into shopping center… Heavy Police enforcement… You may make LEGAL U-turn in 0.5 mile @ Deseret Drive

I just drove this route several weeks ago. Unfortunately it was in a rental Malibu (not Impala as previously posted). This get together should be quite an experience. If only it wasn't half way across the country from me.

JRS,

The main roads are boring and full of traffic. This particular route turns off and cuts thru the foothills on farming back roads. There is the fun in the sun.

Pat-imagine 3hrs of McCain Loop roads in the mountains with over the cliff looks of the ocean.

Priceless

Are there any more of these planned for the spring/summer? There's no way I'll make this next week, but I'd really like to do one of these when I can come out on my summer tires. My poor snow tires can't handle much more abuse.

Another good vid of the start. These roads are nice but nothing like the goodies when you turn off and hit the real roads.

Wow, I can't make it but will be watching for photos and chatter.

I can't find the video, but Speed TVs Supercars Exposed had a great episode where they shut down Mulholland and timed their way up and down it in a Lotus and another car. Tanner drifted whatever he drove. It looked like a blast!

Might an RS6 be too much car for this tight of a road...? You guys better strap in tight!

Don,

That Supercars section was lame. It was on the main section and the backroads are ten times better.

Do you doubt the RS6? It rails those roads and eats them for lunch.

Most likely I cant make it because I want to hit the track day in Vegas next month. Still have not made the final decision yet just because this Mulholland route is the best set of loops I have ever driven.

If that section of Mulholland used by Speed TV is lame, the rest must be pretty incredible! Mulholland looks tight, so I think a lighter car would be more fun. But then all the RS6s HP would make it fun as well. Just call me envious in Wisconsin (until Road America opens up).

I pulled my TCU to send off to Hoppen. Rain sorta killed my motivation to drive 300 miles.
