Via a creditable source I heard today that the S7 will be fitted with the 4.0 TFSI engine. This was no surprise, but it was quoted as low as 400 hp only. Can this be correct? The S8 on the other hand was quoted at 520 hp. The S7 is aiming at the sportier end of the market, but it needs the performance to match. It should have no less power than the S8. The A8/S8 is a design setback, but performance vise it should be promising with 520 hp.
Could the reason be that they are making room for an RS7?
Any others with information on this? After the disappoinment in the engine choice for the RS5 (old 4.2 NA) my final hope was that the S7 could be a potential replacement for my S6, but if 400 hp is correct I will have to look elsewhere.

S7 will have 394ps. Of course, this is maybe not the final figure but, you can not expect more then 400hp...
...and S7 will be faster then current S6-acceleration and track wise.

Why didn't Audi put this engine in the RS5 if it's ready? everyone would have been happy...

400 hp of S7 vs 435 hp of S6
what are the reasons for this?
the only reason for this is leaving a place for RS7
am I right?

This is just my imagination, but A7 could be using many alu parts like the A8, and therefore be lighter than the A/S6...
That + S-Tronic could make it faster than the S6 with "only" 400hp...

When you see full specs of S7 engine you will know that this engine is NOT good for RS5. Why? You will see...
Do not get me wrong-4.0TFSI will be very good engine. BUT, RS5 is designed around 4.2FSI HDZ engine and its S Tronic is tuned just for it. RS5 is complete package-you will see it very, very soon.

because it isn't ready.
and the RS5 has been ready for almost a year, lol.
had the 4.0T been ready it would have debuted in the new A8.
not sure about the 4.0T output- the updated base A8 engine now makes about 380 hp. maybe audi will sandbag the actual output of the 4.0T from 425 to 390 or some silly thing like that. one thing is for sure- it'll have about 400 of torque.

So, let me see if I get this properly...
A7 will be launched on the platform of the next gen' A6 (2011 C7).
It will use some of the engines from next gen' A6 line up (3.0 T, 3.0 TDI)
S7 will be powered with 4.0 T engine, same as next gen S6 C7...?
Will there be RS 7...?

There must be an RS7, if not Audi will loose customers to CLS AMG, Panamera Turbo etc.. And why should the S8 be so much more powerful than the S7, no logic in my mind.

same thing happened with B7 S4 to B8 S4! do you consider that as a step down!?? nooooo waaay!!

An RS7 is very godd news. Lets hope they bring it out before the design is dated (=not at the end of the life cycle as for other RS').

assuming the car is lighter than an A6/7 the 400 hp with extra torque will be plenty for an S7 model.

I wouldn't go that far - after all it is a large estate with mainly different focus.

According to my information the A8 will be available with the 4.0 TFSI (420 hp) in December 2011 and in S8 version (4.0 TFSI) with 520 hp in January 2012. Will the S7 or the A8 be the first with the 4.0 TFSI and will the RS7 be available before the S8? 2012 onwards is too long a wait for the RS7, lets hope Audi makes it available sooner ?

So the S8 is a 2012 model .. too bad. If launched this year would have dominated S63 and 760i/Alpina B7 .. maybe even Panamera Turbo. In 2012 Porsche will definitely have a Turbo S ready to go with a price tag high enough to make an arab sheik cry.
