Greetings...:race:

Went in for oil/ filter change and started the planning to have DRC replacement and tech. has noted that timing belt needs replacement. 51,000 miles on C5 RS6.

DRC is covered by recall; however, quote on Timing Belt is $2,400.00 at Oakland Audi. Other option is Sonnen Audi in San Rafael.

Any one here have experience with either dealer?

Appreciate any feedback/ would like to get it done by Spring.:mech:

How does the tech know the timing belt has not been done?

Is 2400 for just the timing belt? Or does it include all 4 rollers, damper and waterpump? Does it also include any of the spark plugs/fuel filter and serp belt?

:deal:

Quote is as follows:

Serpentine belt, and drive belts- $363.00

Timing belt $2,400.00 - I will verify other parts mentioned pump etc.

DRC shocks first and then verify if pump needs replacing- most probable.

There is only 1 serpentine belt. It costs about 50 bucks.

Does the 2400 include the serpentine belt?

Again, how does the tech "know" it needs done?

DHall-

Just to wrap up - the tech. apparently did a visual on the serpentine belt and noted some cracking - replacement cost quoted at $363.00.

I proved to the service rep. that the timing belt for RS6 is not due till 75,000 miles - he looked at my records and since the timing belt was replaced at 35,000 he was good with that.

So I need to do only the cheaper repair at this time.

Thanks!

See what happens when you ask questions.

Do you realize they are charging you 300 dollars labor to perform a 20 minute job? The part is 64 dollars over the counter.

At 50k miles your serp belt may a some very small hairline cracks on the ribbed side. This is fine for most folks. Pat just changed his serp belt at 75k and it was doing fine.

If it were mine....I would just wait to 75k and plan on changing everything.

You do realize this same tech was trying to soak you for 2400 dollars. right?

Good point. Since when do RS6 owners need to educate "techs" on when and how to service these cars?

The day the slick punk service advisor at Chandler Audi "told" me how and when to service my RS6 was the day Chandler Audi lost all my business. Plain and simple. I have the factory docs and service schedule for my car and I know what to do and when. Mr 22yr/old beach boy can go back to the beach. Nice job Chandler Audi.
