I had the same issue in my a6, just went away after a couple years.

The sound will occurred without using the turn signal, and vary in speed. This just started a few weeks ago.

any help appreciated!

Replace your flasher relay, it's located behind the red triangle in the center dash.

^ I second the flasher relay. Trim piece will pop off with a little prying. The relay just slides out and unplugs after trim is off.

Sorry for the delay p3u. The part number is 480 941 509 k. I found a link to one.

Looks like they are all the same for the C5.

I believe there are either 4 or 6 tabs holding the trim in place. Either 2 or 3 on top and bottom(I think 3 on each side). Carefully pry the trim out. The flasher will slide out. It may take some force and wiggling. The wiring harness is attached to the back and will come out with it.

just out of curiosity having never seen the area is there any room in that area to stuff a relay behind or somewhere in there with the flasher (I picked up one of convenience relays that does the three blinks with one tap) and i would prefer to do it in the dash than in my steering column.
