Anyone going to the Audi driving school at Road America this month? :incar: :incar: :incar: :race: :race: :race:

I'm in meetings both days, but am only 20 min away. I'ld like to join in Monday evening with any folks who come up. Also, I'ld be happy to host a tour of Mercury Racing in Fond du Lac -- if there is interest.

See my earlier post on 8/29, "Audi Car Club Driving School, 9/22 and 23". No one from the mid-West responded, yet quite a few people took delivery of RS 6's. Hey, where are all you guys who live within a reasonable drive to Elkhart Lake, WI. (GoFastKindaGuy, DaBull, Iconcls, srosie, Bajors6, R6FEVR, absent, etc.)? What a great opportunity to get to know your car and drive on one of the best road courses in the US!! I was temped to make the long drive from CA, but it just didn't fit my other commitments this year. Maybe I'll be able to fit it in next year? The first opportunity for us on the West coast is the National event at Infineon Raceway (formerly Serars Point) in November. I can hardly wait!!

GoFast, Looks like our post crossed in route. Wow, living 20 minutes from Rd. Am. must be convenient! When I'm in the area I'll definitely take you up on a tour. Do you know Larry Bower? He was an instructor at the last two driving schools here in CA, Laguna Seca in Sept., 02 and Thunderhill in Jan., 03 (2 days of rain can teach you a lot!). We certainlly enjoyed participating in them.'

I'm afraid if I track my RS 6 I'll get the bug to "tinker" with it and we all know how slippery the tuning slope is. Seriously, it's so nice in stock form and I am VOID of ANY self-discipline.:)

I'm in STL. Not exactly close to Elkhart Lake but relative to CA it's very close! ;-) Boy....sure wish you could make it. And GoFast being so close won't be able to make it either. :(

srosie is pretty close too but can't make it that weekend. Haven't really heard from anyone else yet.

I agree with you Jim...it's a GREAT opportunity to get to know the car unencumbered by on coming traffic and speed limits. I've been to Road America twice with the A6 4.2 so it will be an interesting comparison for sure. I got my nephew "hooked" a couple of years ago at Road America and he'll be up there with me too with a good friend of his. I'll be going to Heartland Park in Topeka Kansas in October too. It's not the world class track that Road America is but it's a very interesting technical track. I'm in search of track tires and wheels now and hopefully will have a reasonable solution before Elkhart.

The banquet for the school is Monday evening so it would be kinda hard to get away. I sure do appreciate the offer of the tour of Mercury Racing in Fond du Lac. I've been there before but never to the Mercury facility. I know it would be fascinating. Maybe there's some way we can work it out on the way out of town Tuesday night. I'd certainly like to meet you too.

Yah but....you'll have more fun bonding with your car and other Audi fanatics :addict: than you can imagine. It's one of the best escapes from the daily grind that I can think of for us car buffs.:incar:

Larry Boyer replied to my e-mail asking if they have available slots. He said they have some but now that August is over he expects the remaining slots to fill rapidly.
His words - get your application in ASAP!

Sooo, Iconcls, I agree with JP4, take this opportunity to get to know you and your RS 6 in the safest possible environment. I hope more of you can get away and experience this driving school. And we all want to hear the glowing reports after the school!!

You bet....I'm like a kid waiting for Xmas again waiting for the school. First it was waiting for the car NOW it's waiting to get her out to stretch her legs in style.

Would really have liked going to this school, but alas, I will be returning from a weekend trip taking me from Chicago to LaCrosse Friday, LaCrosse to Iron Mountain Saturday thru Monday, and back to Chicago Monday night. :vsad: :vsad: I've been on this track for driving school with my Vette just after I got it and it really is a premier track and fun to drive.

I did however, have a blast at the ALMS races August 24. Signed up for the practice lap session where we were given 35 minutes of track time. About 40 vehicles, four groups of ten, running and passing on the straights to 100+ (even though they said we weren't going to exceed 70!). We had three adults in my red devil and worked our way from 6th to 2nd in that group which included nicely modded S4, 2 vettes, an old v-8 Sunbeam Tiger, 2 M3's, 1 M5 (escorted from the track for trying to pass on the curves - doh!), one 350Z and 1 modded tt supra. I really was a blast to smell all that brake pad and hear the rumble of WOT. But, and a big but, Icon is probably right, if I go there again, I'll get hooked and start thinking about tinkering!!!! Rather do that in my Vette.

I really would like to meet up with the N IL/S Wisco owners for a GTG and drive, just unfortunate that I've got this schedule set already.


We're SO fortunate to have the opportunity to enjoy some of the finer things in life! JP4, you are so right. Definitely counting my blessings and thankful for all the sharing in this case.

Whewww, RA is an excellent track for the big iron like your Vette. I'm sure you enjoyed the heck out of it. I heard about the practice lap session at ALMS. I'll bet that was a hoot for several wanna be racers! And glad you got the red devil out there for a while. Sounds like you got several thorough breds to raise an eyebrow and take notice with your 450 hp "family sedan"! ;)
