I wonder if either of these will be available in a 9" width somewhere down the line. I personally prefer the 701 to the new 718/old 710. I just like the spoke look.

I still find myself the 2 factory version better than anything else out there. But, the second one (lace version) is the better of the 2. First one looks too delicate for the visual mass of the car.

The straight spoke?

Which color do you think on an Avus car?

I am leaning to the mesh style in a gunmetal or hyperblack. Waiting on additional pics of just the rims in gunmetal and hyperblack(more of a black chrome type of color) to go against my Avus.

I like the straights in silver on Avus. For the mesh i would go silver or gun metal on Avus. I think the black is too far on the RS6 on any color as you really loose the design of the wheel and the car just looks like its floating on black holes to me, making it look heavy.

DHall1
December 9th, 2009, 06:17
I agree going too dark is no good on the RS6. That is why I get all fussy with wheel color. Gunmetal may be too dark. I have emails into Jacob for better pics of the gunmetal and the hyperblack.

hypersilvers are not out just yet.

I had previously contacted VMR about a set, but at the time there were no plans of producing a wheel in anything wider than 8.5, which is too narrow IMO. But if they are considering a 9.5 width, I'm all in on some 19" (Group Buy?). I like both the straight spoke and the mesh designs, but I think I'm for the mesh in silver or diamond cut with matte accenting (not that they have that available as of yet).

Ok kids,

I am working on a deal on these 701s and 718s for the RS6 group.

I have pics coming of the 701s mounted on a vehicle.

If Erik is ok with a group discount for RS6.com then that is also in the works. Seems like VMR has a good rep and we have never really had a chance to try the rims due to fitment issues.

Lets see how it goes.

Thank you for the large pics. I agree the 701 spoke is larger and runs all the way out to the edge. The concave shape of the 701 rim face also updates the look.

VMR has done a great job with the design and style of these rims.

I will run these VMR rims. I now have to choose between the 701 and 718s.

First color choice for me will be gunmetal.

More to come.

We can move forward with the RS6.com group purchase of VMR wheels. We are running this purchase direct with VMR so please dont involve any VMR side dealers. VMR does not wish to step on any dealers toes or RS6.com.

I always get these two wheels backwards...arrrgh.

If the oem 8.5 x 18 is 30mm backspace then the VMR 8.5 with 35mm backspace is not what we need.

The 19x9.5 MTM has 30mm backspace and fits perfect on the RS. I need to go get the calc out. 5.93 inches of backspace from center. 3.57 inches of positive dish.

The 19x9.5 VMR has 33mm backspace. We need to confirm fitment. (thats you Greg) hehe 6.05 inches of backspace from center. 3.45 inches of positive dish.

The 19x9 RS4 oem wheel has 29mm backspace and fits the C5 RS6. 5.64 inches of backspace from center and 3.36 positive dish.

The 19x9 C5 euro oem wheel as 35mm backspace and fits at the limit of backspace because not all tires will clear the control arm. 5.87 inches of backspace from center and 3.13 positive dish.

NOt sure myself...

I suppose it could be clearance on the inside of the wheel well? I would think you would need less offset with a wider rim. That would keep the actual inside rim location identical and move the extra rim width to the outside.....?

You're technically correct. Offset is measured from the center of the rim to the mounting surface. If the mounting face is in the center, it's 0 offset. Offset goes positive when moving the mounting surface inward and negative when moving outward. So the offset number will be dictated by the width of the rim. Hope that helped.

For what it's worth, the tires in my photo's (#28 & 39) above are 265/35/19 on the 19x8.5 rims. Total offset is 30 with the spacers. I've run them the past two summers without rubbing issues. HOWEVER, my coilovers are not as low as others might prefer.

The 35 series profile does give a noticeably harsher ride, which is why I up-sized from the proper fitment of 255/35 to 265/35 for a bit more sidewall. Yes, this does cause the speedometer to read 1% slow.

I've had pals run 275/35/18's on the track and they love the way the wheel fills out the wheel well.

My vote is for 19 x 9.5, I still have to figure out which style to go with. I think the 9.5 width with a 265-285 tire looks much better on our cars, and significantly adds to the traction. Currently I'm running the stock 18 x 8.5 , and it looks and feels too narrow. I've run up to 20 x 10 rear, 20 x 9 front (20" wheels were a little too harsh a ride), and I had no problems with rubbing. As far as looks, the width was perfect.

Ahhhh Haaaaaaa!!! I've got ya dead to rights on this one Dave. You're waaaaay off. 3mm is roughly 0.120" or 1/8". That's bigger than an entire gnat (note the "g")! (http://www.extension.iastate.edu/newsrel/2002/oct02/oct0221.html). So by deduction a gnat's hair (note the "g" again as well as the possessive " 's ", missing in your quote), must be substantially (several orders of magnitude) smaller. Now his ass may be essentially the same but the tape measure shown here (http://01mrmotorcycle.blogspot.com/2009/02/gnats-ass.html) has perhaps a more precise unit of measure. Please be more accurate in the future - lives are at stake.

Just reading some of the comments left for that video made me wonder why parents let their 5-year-olds post comments.
"i had long hair to... but mine was sexier cuz it was thick and not thin... but i cut it cuz it got way to annoying and now its even more sexy then be4! u should try it. the ends of ur hair look dead."
Yeah, now it's time for you to shut-up and go back to sleep little one. She should be the poster child for how our education system is failing miserably. No pics of any 9.5 Audi wheel because they have never been produced in Audi fitment. Here is a shot of 8.5s on a A6.

The 710 wheel is a close copy of the HRE new series monoblock wheel. Current style and front dish make the wheel look deep.

9.5s should look nice on the RS6 and update the look alittle without looking cheap or ricey.

But hey just me. I can always put my stockers on to look old and cranky.

Fitment of 19x9.5 VMR wheels to C5 RS6.

8.5 US spec rim has 5.43in backspace

9.5 VMR spec rim has 6.05in backspace

.62in difference

9.5 MTM is a known fitment and has 5.93in backspace.

Here are the pics of the rim/tire to knuckle clearance on 8.5 rim/255/40/18 tire.

What you are looking at is this. 1.12in of clearance from the rim to knuckle. .85in clearance between the sidewall and knuckle.

You know what I know. Happy boosting.

Here is the 9.5 MTM with 275/30s. Look at the sidewall and how it pulls in and rolls over the shoulder of the tire. That shape will allow a perfect fit. We just need the Contis to do the same thing.

If the 275's don't work, I am thinking a 3mm spacer to bring it to an et30 will be the solution. Or if you want to play it safe even a 265 tire should do the job, but we want to keep you guys looking as aggressive as possible.

Bruce had to take the test wheel off.

Guys, read the thread. These are the very first 19x9.5 VMR wheels to hit US soil. VMR is only making the 710s then later the 701s. After that its up in the air.

Now looking at the above MTM picture. See the difference below.

The VMR wheel/tire combo sits .12 inch or 3mm in from that picture. 3mm

Its about as flush as you can get to the front fender and still get that 275 tire in there.

Are you really sure?

The 275's seemed to barely clear on the inside at stock height I believe. I would recommend going with a 265 to stay on the safer side since you are on springs. Feel free to email me at jacob@velocitymotoring.com if you need any help with fitment/tires. Or you can just ask for me if you call the office.
