Thought I'd post the insides of ours beasts transmission, if anyone is interested. I know I stared at the pictures for a good 10 min trying to better understand how things work.

It seems my clutch pack A and D are the reason for my slipping tranny, but all is being rebuilt to be better, faster, and stronger :)

Enjoy!

Thanks for the pics. I saved them to reference for later when I pull my tranny/engine.

Hi there! I am TozoM8 fro QW and AW. I am working on p3u's RS6. If any of you guys have a request for a picture or measurements while the tranny is out email me at tozoa8 at yahoo dot com. I rebuild a lot of A/S8 transmissions and they come out 1 hour flat, but this one took 6 hours :w:
I am very impressed of the design, they put a lot of stuff under the hood.

Wonder what you could throw out there in recommended tranny upgrades? A lot of other RS6 HP24's have suffered problems with the Torque converters. Basically wondering what your suggestions are in the repair to keep these things from failing again and what to beef up, especially on a car that has been chipped for around 500bhp & 500 lb/ft of Torque. Where are you located?

I am in Chicago. I will put a band on the clutch A basket to make it stronger. The TC will be rebuild by Dynamic. Pics to follow.....

Are you making any modifications to the valve body?

I just finished p3u's transmission this week and all I can say is, the RS6 is a great car. I could get used to this :) After I parked it in the shop I got back in my S8 with a 6 speed and I was looking for more power :( Here are some pics of the rebuilt tranny.

Yes, the TC is modified. TC circuit modified and slightly reduced clearances in the clutches.
My S8 is converted to a 6 speed manual out of a B5 S4 with a .56 6th gear set from a Euro TDI for better mpg on the hwy. I just put my other car a converted 97' A8 6MT up for sale on ebay. Here is my S8 conversion http://forums.quattroworld.com/a8/msgs/12898.phtml

Ha, fortunately for me the ransom wasn't too bad. :thumb:

I can't wait to see how much better it drives! :incar:

TozoM8, is the cracked oil line accessible with the oil pan off or does the tranny have to be pulled apart? Wondering if I should check mine? Anyway to upgrade it or brace it so it doesn't crack again?

How do you test that tranny before you spend 6 hours putting it back??

He shipped the to me. I took it out, rebuilt the tranny and put it back. You can air check all the clutches during the rebuild. I cleaned every part with a steam cleaner and all new seals, O-rings, clutches and steels in it. It is basically a new transmission.

I could see from the pictures that everything was squeaky clean before the rebuild, I just would be worried about missing something with all that reassembly and then the reinstall time!

An excellent mechanic is worth his weight in gold!
