Hi, I have been reading a lot of useful information on the RS6.com and it seems like a much better community than a lot of other car forum. I have been always a fan of the RS6 when it first came out and I remember chasing one down on the highway with my wife (back then girlfriend - time flies) just to give the owner a thumb up. Anyway, now that the price has come down a lot and I can finally purchase one with my hard earned money. Like everyone else, I am looking for a clean history, well maintained, unmolested, low mileage and low budget RS6 to drive everyday. How much do you guys think I need to set aside for repair bills for the next year? What is a nice example that qualifies your standard go for nowadays? It seems like you guys know a lot of the RS6 that are on the market so would you please point me to the right direction in purchasing a nice RS6. Thank you very much in advance for all your feed back and help. Looking forward in learning some useful information for you!

I just picked one up that was beyond clean.

I paid 26,500 for a 70,000 mile car Options were carbon fiber, sound exhaust.

The car was owned by a doctor and had all the maintance records. The tires are almost new.

This car came with a fidelity gold plus with 50 deduct good until 05-11 then I can extend it for 2 years for 2100.00

I think you want a car under 30,000 miles that is pristine. There might be 4-5 of those around and they will get top money. I bet you will pay 34,000.

For me the extra 30,000 miles were fine. I saved 8 grand and bought a perfect car with a warranty.

Good luck!

Pat,

Thank you very much for the quick response. Me and my wife were at Boise Idaho last year for a short visit. It is a beautiful place with awesome looking houses and we took a rental car up half way between Alberta and Boise through some of the most beautiful mountain roads. Anyways, did you not afraid a car with that high of mileage? From what I understand the parts and services can get very expensive with these limited edition vehicles. Are there any RS6 you would recommend? Thank you very much for your time and congrats on that beautiful RS6 you just got.

Idaho is a great place. I am glad you enjoyed yourself.

I live about 120 miles from Boise and am going there in a few hours to see my girlfriend and taking the rs6.

These cars are meant to last 200,000 miles. If you buy a good one and the owner did all the maintance and did not punch it from every stop light then you will be good to go.

I bought a 01 911 tt this spring with 54,000 and enjoyed putting 8000 miles on it with no issues.

I would look for one with between 50 to 60000 miles and try to pay around 29-30k for it.

My timing belt will need replacement in around 7000 miles so i will be out 1500.

Good luck

We really like the houses around Foothill area and almost thought about moving there last year. The only thing worries me was having Micron being one of the few big companies out there and the way economy was. Otherwise everything looked really nice and even the downtown looks pretty safe. We ran out of time to check out Sun Valley as that is the home of many celebrities and I heard there are lots of fun outdoor activities to do. If you don't mind me asking how much did you paid for the 01 911 tt and how do you compare that to the RS6 as far as reliability and AWD. Sorry for the dumb question as 911tt is also within that same ball park budget. Thanks again!

I live in New York and my budget is between 20k to 30k (depending on the condition and how much I need to set aside for repair). Thank you very much for the quick response.

I do live in the sun valley area. It is a nice place.

I paid 40,000 for the tt and love it.

They really are 2 different cars.

The porsche is a coupe and is really fast. I have a custom tune on that car and has aroung 440 whp.
It is loud and rough but it is a porsche.

The rs6 is smooth and refined. I hace 2 kid seats in the back and it drives so nice.

I did a quick check on auto trader and there are 3-4 cars for around 29-30k with under 60,000 and I found one for 26,000 with 70,000

Pat,
Have you tried putting child seats in your 911turbo? I know a booster seat would work find in the back but not sure if the regular child seat would fit in the back. That is why I am thinking about a powerful sedan like RS6 which would fit nicely especially we are expecting another child in another month. Do you know the history with all the RS6 you have listed below? The one in New York seems pretty nice at least pictures wise but otherwise I don't know anything about it.

i would never consider the 911 and putting car seats in. It really is to small back there.

You will need to research thise cars i showed you. Most audi dealers are good with sharing the records.

Either way you have to take a gamble or just spend 15k more and get a brand new s4

But you would not get a hand build rs6 then and no v8 either

How is the performance between an E60 M5 and C5 RS6? I need the AWD but I think the traction control on an M5 does a pretty good job. Please provide feed back. Thank you.

rs6 > m5. end of story.

haha, ok, but seriously, one of the guys on the boards had an E60 M5, bought an RS6 and couldn't wait to get rid of his M5 and now he has 2 RS6s.....

Traction control on a 2-wheel drive car can never come close to matching AWD like in the RS6. You are still only powering 2 wheels and braking one wheel to keep it from spinning, or cutting power is not comparable to a Quattro, a world of difference.

right, well, for those of us down here in areas that don't really snow or rain, one can get away with not having traction to all four wheels but in areas where one comes across inclement weather, nothing beats all wheel drive

So true Duck, the car would be lighter if it was 2WD and in the dry would be quicker down a comparable road but the guy says he is from New York and was talking about traction control so that was the point of view I was coming from for the comparison, wet to icy roads.

For those of you that live in a warmer climate, have you guys try converting your RS6 to RWD and see if there is any performance gain? Just a thought!

Even if I knew how, I don't think I'd try. Just the other day it was drizzling rain, hit the gas and - bang - off like a shot. No spin, no lights, no slippage. No way to do that without Quattro:addict:

Why own a RS6 without quattro? Have you not driven an RS6.

This is the best awd V8 turbo platform on the planet.

If you want RWD go buy a M5.

RS6>M5>E55>E63

IMHO

There have been a few people converted their 911 turbo from AWD to RWD so I figure whether there is any hard cored RS6 owner has done such a conversion. I have not driven an RS6 so forgive me for asking such a dumb question. I happen to know people like to turn off the ESP button in their Cayenne turbo, RS4 as well as Superleggera (with a combination of SPORT button there is a built in equivalent to a launch mode which revs the engine to 5,000 RPM without the designated CORSA button) in order to get a better start as well as cuts off the interference by the computer. Btw, a Cayenne turbo as well as a X5M are also pretty decent V8 twin turbo charged AWD vehicles. Thank you very much for your time and again sorry for not have driven the most wonderful RS6 as well as asking so many dumb questions. Cheers!

I'd be willing to wager that those who're trying to convert their AWD TT to RWD TT are looking for performance gains on the track, there are very few of us who are tracking the RS6 on a fairly regular basis and frankly, I doubt you'd save all that much weight (in the grand scheme of things). We've gone 'round the bend on this issue, the RS6 is not a car that's meant for the track.

Dave, on the E63 < E55, this is definitely true of every one that I've talked to, however, I am intrigued by the new E63 that's debuting. Again, the bottom line with Mercs is, too much torque!

Turn off the ESP? Come on! Going up a twisting windy shear rock faced mountain roads with presupposes to certain death at speeds of 3X posted. Anyone know someone like that Dave? Huh Dave? Well someone like that might even be somebody that even turns off his A/C on a hot day just for more HP.
As far as buying from a Doctor goes, that doesn't hold much water. Ask who was in front of Dave half the way.:incar:

Well my 2 cents. I have outrun both M5s and E55s with just a good launch (not taking on any 63s though unless its all out rain). This cars capabilities in the wet (been on a very wet track with it in the rain) are amazing, as it is in the snow. I have had no issues in the 6" dumps we get and on ice covered roads.

I think after you get a chance to drive one you will really get it (over the others)...it is drama free no buttons to push acceleration more breath taking for your passengers as it is just incredibly smooth from the drivers seat. I have zippo desire to even test drive the MBs or the M5 as I like the AWD that much. I have watched endless MBs and BMWs getting no where in bad weather and one case i really love a guy pulled next to me on the right at a light (one lane each direction so it was him trying the d move to get ahead) in a SL550 and tried to outrun me off the light...the road was wet. I looked at him as he jumped on it (i did nothing yet) ...he sat and spun...I and my now fiance gave him the queen's wave and then blew away with not even a blip from the traction control. I was at the next light before he cleared the first intersection.

Haha, I was gonna chime in and comment earlier too. Some of the hardest drivers I know are doctors. In fact, one of the highest mileage RS6 in the country is driven by a doctor and he really pushes his car. Not dangerously or anything like that but he has fun with it (as well he should.)

Yeah,

I had his ass if he didnt know the road so well. The blind corners and elevation change at over 100mph on a road you never traveled on takes some cast iron attachments.

:w:

Greg-the new E63 drives the same as the old E55/63. Same suspension design. Like I have said, its (E55) a great car for the musclecar feeling of straight line performance and that engine is a dream. Braking and turning....a whole different story.....Quattro and RS6 every day of the week. For my wife, she loves the color and solid drive of the E55. I cant even get the keys anymore.

For me its Quattro forever.

Maybe a Gumpert some day. :deal:
