Have surfed the archives here and noted that most seem to run stock rims. Is there a reason why other than personal preference? Thanks.

Cost of the MTM route is or can be rather expensive.

Size:
DuckWingDuck has 20"s on his and he states (and I know from passenger seat experience) that it can be harsh.

I believe that DHall1 did polish the outer portion of the rim surface giving it juuussssst a touch difference. It is subtle but not glaring like going from an 11 spoked rim to a 5 spoked rim (why the hell does spoked look misspelled?!?!?)

I run OEM for europe 19" 5 spokes for summer and they are the limit on ride comfort (18s feel much softer). I prefer the look of the OEM wheels in 18" and 19" better on the RS6 than aftermarket is my excuse...keeping it classy and original. MTMs i would do but as pointed out...way too much $$.

most tyres are 17/18, so once you start going to 19s and 20s, the price increase can get pretty dramatic.

the oem wheels look just fine to be honest

I'm wondering now if I should just get 18" replacements instead of 19"? I have bottomed out my 18"s before, so 19"s would theoretically be easier to bend. Sounds like the 19"s are also pretty stiff...

Hmmmnnnnn...

I personally think 19s are fine, you can still get decent wheel wall, not like the friggin' rubberbands that I'm running.

I run 19's in summer and 18's in winter.

I do the same as Bigglezworth-- 18s in the winter (stock rims with Blizaks) and 19s the rest of the year. I love the look of the R8 rims, so my 19s are R8 replica rims. Audi purist think it's blasphemy... :nono:, but most others (and I) think it brings the car up to date and looks great. It's just a matter of personal taste; I like the stock rims too. GBG

If there Forged then 3K isn't a bad price but if there cast, forget it. They can't just look good guys, they have to be good. Forged not cast on our heavy and fast car.

I'm running 19's in the summer with 265/35 rubber. (19x8.5 Neuspeed r10 - 19 lbs.) Love the look but don't care for the ride quality. (Personal choice) Stock 18's in the winter.

Considering 18" 5 spoke replica's for summer.

I don't disagree with the concept but I'm pretty sure our stockers are cast, not forged. Generally, forging will provide higher strength than cast, but that's in no way always the case. As far as the wheel holding up or not, it's a matter of designing the right amount of material in the right places. Very possible for a casting to be lighter than a forging with equal strength.

19" rs/4 on 255/35/19

forged about $500 a rim from hartmann. Wouldn't recommend them, they bend to easy.

there've been quite a few complaints about hartmann wheels bending as I recall. Maybe a bit o' false memory but I don't think so...

I have a set of RS6 reps from them on my A8L and had one give in on a not so bad railroad crossing and I'm pretty soft on the car. I was surprised.

I have been very soft on the rims and all of them are bent.

I guess there is a reason why the Hartmann forged are $600 and most other forged are $900~$1000 and up.

Like Bigglez and GBG I run 19's in the summer (stock) and 18's in the winter - AT Italia wide 5 spokes w/Dunlop sport SP5000 M3 (ouch). I think the winter wheels look much better than the originals. There's a significant difference in the ride and performance between the two. The winters are a nice ride and great in the winter in the Rocky Mts. but they don't grip in the twisty's, when it's dry, like the summers (duh).

Do you run 8" wide wheels or 8.5" wide?

I Run 20" DPE S20's 9"f 9.5"r. No problems. Not as smooth as OEM but look sweet could try some tire shopping to refine the road noise and feel. Thats all in the tread and compound, to a point. More grip less tire roll noticable. I am very happy with this setup. Can't wait to get the Variants....
