I am waiting for pictures of a local car that was declared a "total" by insurance. I'm told by the owner that it can be bought back for $7000. As I said, I haven't seen it yet, but should be getting pictures soon and may try to go look at it this week. I am familiar with the car and the owner is currently looking for another one, so please forward me any links or info on RSs you know are for sale in the states.

I am mulling over the options of securing it and also seeing who else might be interested in participating in salvaging this opportunity. Here is a pic of our cars together. Mine is the Avus.

Scott - you're saying it is the blue one that got totaled? Is that the HEB VP that totaled it? They were just towing that one in when I dropped mine off last week. Bummer.

Any details? How did it happen? Where is the hit? What's likely to be salvageable?

I would want to put dibs on some interior switchgear if in good shape. CF or wood dash inserts?

Interested.

Can you provide information on where the car was hit, flood car, etc? Obviously pictures would help, but yes... very interested.

I'll take the front left intercooler.

I got dibs on that!

you can have the front left headlight bezel...

looks like a fire hydrant or large rock jumped out in front a calmly driven RS6...

I'll take the front left intercooler.

LOL, there is already a line forming for that.

I'm trying to test the waters here to see if this is even workable.
My hope in all this is to flip enough stuff from this car to break even and get a few spare parts to put on the shelf for my car. It would be a good winter garage project.

Ideally, this scenario could include two or three other folks (some local) to aid in the initial buy, who would then get reimbursed with some parts they want plus cash from the sale of the remaining components.

As I have not had much experience with selling used parts, my biggest concern is if there is enough interest out there to recoup the $7k. If the engine is intact, I would think that it would be worth a good chunk of that money right off the bat (if I could find a buyer).

Please let me know your thoughts.

With that type of damage, I am suprised that the buy back is that much.... then again, all that could be fixed and put back on the road for a lot less than $15k...

hmm... track car anyone?

Until I see it in person, I tend to agree about the cost.

Got this email from him:

The damage is limited to the left front end - did jam the drivers door and the right rear qtr panel - You ought to look at the car though there may be more damage - The engine may have been damaged - that's what totaled the car
-- Tires are almost new and the wheels were just redone- look like new- New suspension, etc....

IMHO

The only real value is the driveline and electronics package.

The rest of the tidbits would only pay my bar tab.

The real question is a crack on any mounting tab of the engine and or transmission. All it takes is a cracked mounting tab and or crack in a trans or engine block to sour the entire deal.

The brakes/wheels/interior are not worth 7k.

Call me! LOL

Dave, that is what I'm worried about as well. And if that's the case, I think I'd offer them half. ;)

I just spoke with my Audi RS tech and he is going to come with me when I go to look at the car.

I'll be in touch.

That problem is the frame rail.

Its bent and it moved quite a bit.

What is bolted to the frame? Uhhh, engine block and trans.

Frame moves and the engine mounting bolt is stronger than the aluminum engine block and the tab on the engine block that bolts to the mount.

Bingo

Also, the torque from impact could have cracked the trans housing and make it very difficult to see because the crack could be where the trans bolts to the block. Again the mounting bolts are stronger than the aluminum housings and given the impact force....aluminum will always fracture first.

I think he is replying to the OP, where he was asking for cars to replace the damaged one.

Found out where the car is, but I either need a dealer's license or have to bring the car's owner with me to look at it. The owner can "buy it back" through the insurance company, or it has to be obtained at upcoming auction from the salvage yard.

I would be inerested in the Navi system for my allroad and perhaps some interior pieces as well. $7K does seem a bit high as its not going to go back on the road with a bent rail, etc. Please let me know if you do purchase it.
Cheers, Aaron.

With all of the ppl interested in parts, maybe you should start a list of certain parts and the order ppl have dibs.

It would be pretty ugly if you get the car and everyone wants the same part(s) and only one gets it... or were you thinking of putting the parts up on e-bay?

Just a thought
