Noticed that the vanity lights on driver door edge (red and ground light) no longer come on at night and the warning chime doesan't come on when I leave my lights on and pull the key.

Sounds more like a latch problem.

I agree - sounds more like a door latch...

What does the door latch have to do with it?

The switch that senses whether the door is open or shut is located within the door latch on all VAG cars. This switch is resposible for turning on the courtesy lamps and triggering the headlamp chime when the door is open. It's a really common failure.

OK, got it. I will check that out shortly. But if I remember correctly, the inside vanity lights are still activated when the door opens. I'll confirm later.

Thanks!

I love this place. It is the door latch. I was unaware of that set up.

Anyone have a source for this assembly? The part (4B1837015H) is $almost $250!
