:vhmmm: So.. this isn't my strongest area - electrics.
I have a small camera i want to install into the car - this thing is tiny and needs a regulated 12v supply. No spikes or it will fry. (12v 1 amp) - any suggestions on a power supply? Or should i be looking at a regulator of some sort ??

Any advice.

Thanks

Tap it off the battery and put a 1 amp fuse in line on the positive wire.
Actually, thats probably not going to work.. I think Radio Shack sells a device just for this kind of application.

I did see something from Radio Shack but it had reviews that said it was Not Good, it cooked quickly. Searching Google ofcourse but not really sure what exactly would be the best solution here.
Thxs for the input though.

maybe something along these lines.... http://h2oinstruments.com/shop/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=20
The cost is balanced if your fitting a $2500 night vision system and need to make sure it wont be fried. I'm putting in a small cam now for another reason and the NV later.

DC-DC powersupply, or voltage regulator with heatsink.

Or if you're feeling adventurous:

Wouldn't a Bellon Voltage Regulator help to stabilize current?

I don't think so. That "stabilizes the power or smooths it out.. like a dampener for power. It will not hold the power supply at 12V. but i liked your thinking.
Close but no cigar.
