i hear somewhere that BMW has unofficially acknowledged V8 turbo for its next M5.

The new M5 will indeed have a forced V8, and Audi will most likely follow with the next RS6.

ya, for me, the perfect note is achieved by a v8. v10s and v12s just don't sound as nice IMO.

Don't get me wrong as I am VERY much the fan of a V8 note.

um.... a V12 1970's-ish Ferrari accelerating sounds great to me! And you can hear it on top of any other note out there, except a 1973 LTD with cracked headers and missing a muffler.

The current market stables of V10/V12 sound slightly weak and tinny(sic)... not to take anything away from their performance.

A certain V16 with quad turbos sounds great!
Also there is a certain Merc (SL 65 V12 TT, I think??) that sounds brutal.
