yes, in the ashtray. As you open the ashtray, it pops up.

hm... odd
i received a CF shift surround trim and it was longer than mine... i have the ashtray, but the CF one looks like it would eliminate the ashtray.
i'll have to see if it fits without the ashtray

i went ahead and installed the trim in my car with the ashtray removed.
fits no problem. only problem is if you look closely, you'll see an opening around the sides and the far back of the trim where you can see the backside of the center console.

The date stamped is 07.07.98, I wonder if this is for the earlier pre-facelift A6 or S6 cars? Did the guy you get if from say it was from a RS6? I don't recall what differences in the interior there was on the pre-facelift cars.

the sticker above the part number says 02
i got this from someone that pulled it out of a 03 RS6 avant in asia.
i'll search around and see if there's a trim available for it

fitment wise, everything lines up and installs like the original.
