2003 RS6 with Stasis-Ohlin MS, Hotchkiss bars .. lately, when I make slow speed turns, there is an occasional knocking sound coming from what I believe is the front left suspension area. I took the wheel of, examined the area including control arms and suspension, but didn't see anything obvious. The knocking seems only to occur when turning, and is heard when on a flat area as well as when turning on a curb or speed bump or such. Fyi 3 weeks ago the dealer replaced the front left boot, and the knocking started about a week ago.

Any ideas?

TIA

The CV joint may need to be replaced.

Could be the CV joint as Snoopra said, also could be the contol arms. I had the same problem starting on my car at 45~50K and I just got around to replacing them on my car at 56K, annoying sound but it is all good now, and handles better. The main lower rear arm and the upper rear arm bushings were toast. They are the same bushings as the slightly lighter A6 but even those cars go through control arms like crazy.

I have the same set up as you.

I found a loose ( as in loose fastener ) on an upper link. Pre-loaded the suspension and retorqued everything, noise went away.

I had a similar noise, turned out to be a loose steering rack. Three bolts attach the rack. You can get to the top two of them from the area where the coolant overflow tank is, the bottom one... well good luck. I just re-torqued the top two and the noise went away.

Wasn't there complaints about the Stasis system causing a "bump" from the rear suspension as a regular issue?
