MP4-12C will beat 458 Italia in almost every aspect IMHO.

This is how people market themselves today:

"It delivers the highest horsepower to CO2 ratio of any car on the market today with an internal combustion engines..."

Audi style steering wheel.

I don't really like the looks of it as much as I like the fact that it's a McLaren readgoing car and it has a 3.8TTV8 developed by themselves.

Looks like McLaren might have to develop some more engines :D
Or buy from Renault! :D :D :D

Ugly!
Nothing special. Front and rear without personality.
I expected much more from McLaren...

Really disappointing!

Only time will show which is better.....

I believe it'll perform on par with the 458. As for the looks, unimaginative spells it perfectly. And the back end is...atrocious...

RXBG we have different tastes! I'm a huge fan of "to each his own"...

I agree that this is a bit tame. They have not had the currage to let the F1 from 1992 go as well a beeing too conservative. The design is not distinct enough in my view, but performance wise I am sure it will be good.

I will be very surprised if this won't wipe the floor with the opposition. Power to weight should be class leading and we all know that McLaren know better than most what it takes to make a great handling car.

As for the looks, it's as unimaginative as the Porsche 997, in that I mean it reminds me of the old F1 but with it's design brought up to date.

If I had the money burning a hole in my pocket I would plump for this quicker than either a F458 or a LP560.

This will be faster than an F458. More power, less weight, brake steer, pre-cog SSG and McLaren have always outdone Ferrari wrt mechanical grip.

Yeap, but which holds the better street cred?

As most of these people who buy these cars know very little about the finer workings it all comes down to brand image and on this front I am sure that Ferrari is the better known brand name of the two.

Another thing, who wouldn't prefer to be shown their new cars in the sun shine of Modena instead of a damp day in Woking. :hihi:

As for us in the know it's the McLaren all the way. :love2:

Nice car.

But I see a lot of areas that need improvement.

this is not the new "F1"...it's a new product built to fight vs 458 & LP560. Real F1 successor will be available later next years

That comment was meant as a joke, i.e. meant as a jag at the rich which I unfortunately ain't one of them.

No my real meaning behind that statement was most people (even rich ones) buy a car to impress a chick and very few chicks rich or not will know the McLaren brand name as well as they will the Ferrari one, and as such they will be more impressed by the Ferrari because of the name than the McLaren.

That picture says it all... the original was designed in the early 90's and this new one a decade and a half later (IMHO) looks no better, and just comes off as an "updated" look for the old one. It's nice, but not McLaren nice...

Sure?

Sure.
All that plastic.......... :vgrumpy:

The F1 is a timeless car.
The new Mc is... pathetic. It's a bad mix between old F1, Lotus Evora, Ascari KZ1 and GTA concept...
We don't want a F1 recreation of the new Century. We need something NEW (like the F1 in the 90s, or like Pagani nowadays).

If they don't change that design they will sell less MP-WTF than F1s.
It's impossible to sell 1000 units/year only because it has a good handling.

Frank Stephenson must be fired right now, but the guy(s) that gave the OK to that design must be killed!

(I like the interior)

My microwave oven has a better name. :lovl:

Is that engine McLarens ''from zero''...?

Or they derivated it from Merc' or some else manufacturer...

one thing is for sure people- mclaren has proved that one CAN build a car that is turbocharged as all hell and MID engined.

are you listening audi? even the rear hatch is similar to the R8's with a simple little extra vent in the deck lid and enlarged side vents.

if audi turboed the V8 properly it could generate 550 hp easily and 450 of torque even more easily.

VW has already built that car.

It looks to be an amazing car, but will it be as good as the F1? Probably not, which is what kills me. No matter how good this car is ( and I'm sure it will be amazing) the fact that its 15 year old counter part is a superior machine is crap.

Are those your estimates or fact?

By the time this car is really available on the market ,the 458 will be already yesterdays news.
Another 2 years before this thing can be driven and tested.
So far it is only promises, bragging and theories based on their computer simulations.

I doesn't look spectacular, but it's not an eye sore either. I think it suits McLarens' philosophy to have a rather unassuming design covering a technological carnival. Something very British about that. I'll take it in Racing Green please.

However, all that subtlety goes out the window when you open those 'Lamborghini Style Doors'. Was that really necessary? On some cars, I know, it is the most logical entry and exit strategy. This may be one of those cars, but it doesn't look like it, which makes the door mechanism look as goofy as it does on Johnny's Peugeot 206. I'd be kind of embarrassed, to be honnest. I'd wait till no one can see me get in or out. Or perhaps do it Dukes style through the window.
