Three New Models at the IAA

· The S5 Sportback uses a powerful, supercharged V6
· A4 3.0 TDI clean diesel quattro with stunningly clean exhaust

· The A3 1.2 TFSI consumes just 5.5 liters of fuel per 100 km
(42.77 mpg)

Audi plans to make some significant noises during the Frankfurt Motor Show happening in just over two weeks from now. Three models confirmed for public debuts are the S5 Sportback, the A4 3.0TDI clean diesel quattro and the A3 1.2 TFSI. Another one or three "surprise" models are planned, but more on those later.

Firstly the S5 Sportback is obviously an A5 Sportback derivative. Its main claims to fame are the five-door coupé configuration and its engine. The latter is a 3.0-litre V6 fitted with a supercharger. It makes 245kW (333hp) and 440Nm of torque between 2,900rpm and 5,300rpm. Audi says it will bolt from 0 - 100km/h in 5.4 seconds with a top end pegged at 250km/h. Average fuel consumption is a provisional 9.7 litres per 100km (24.25 mpg US). It comes with 18-inch wheels, a quattro sports differential, a seven-speed S Tronic dual-clutch transmission and electrically adjustable S sports seats covered with Silk Nappa leather. The launch is scheduled for spring 2010 and the base price will be €57,900 in Germany.

Then we have the A4 3.0TDI clean diesel quattro. Its new common-rail injection system can generate up to 2,000 bar of pressure. The engine features pressure sensors in the combustion chamber and a DeNOX catalytic converter. These together with other innovations ensure an average of 6.7 liters per 100km (35.11 mpg US) and a 0 - 100km/h time of 6.2 seconds. Most importantly it will meet Euro 6 standards expected to become law in 2014.

Lastly Audi has confirmed the A3 1.2 TFSI with a 1,197cc turbo engine. The engine weighs 89.5kg (197.31 lbs), produces 77kW (105hp) and maximum torque of 175Nm between 1,500rpm and 3,500rpm. Average fuel consumption is 5.5 liters per 100km (42.77 mpg US) and C02 emissions are set at 127g/km.

There have been rumours of an RS3 making its debut at Frankfurt but an Audi official says this is definitely not going to happen. What we are more likely to see is the R8 Spyder/ Cabriolet which is based on the R8 V10.

No A8 then afterall. Audi is being very coy lately with model introductions. There must be something very big surrounding the new A8. Audi is very secretive, more so than usual.

Presentation in Nov. 09 officially confirmed for some time now. It is Audis flagship, they want it to have the sole attention. Not acheevable on the IAA.

Besides all the other "new" things (design, engines, suspension,...) the A8 will bring, i'm very curious about the new MMI unit (touchpad - multitouch?, internet connectivity? (google results as navi destinations), preplanning routes online?,...)
