Unless you're in the UK, where the record is still 6:55 - Radical SR8.

A great time for a proper car though.

Ditto. Kind of hard to compete against a Radical period, let alone the V8. Awesome time for a "real" car for sure! Incredible, and an Audi engine to boot!

In terms of road-legal track specials we're sitting pretty though. When they beat the Radical SR8, we'll go back with the Caterham Levante. If they beat that we'll go back with the Ariel Atom 500 and if they beat that we'll get serious and send the Caparo T1.

Well done to the Gumpert though. I always hinted at this when people were ranting about the ACR. I said there were faster cars out there that hadn't been tested yet. The Gumpert was one example I gave and the others were the Ultima GTR, the Stealth B6, Mosler MT900S and Ascari A10. All potential 7:1X cars. A McLaren F1 LM must also be in with a chance given an ability to drive upside-down at 150mph. All you need is an owner willing to risk over £5m.:lovl:

1,7G in angstkurve!!! WOW!

But the Koenigsegg CCR (old) 806 hp was faster with 313 km/h in D Höhe.

Graphs can bee seen here: http://www.sportauto-online.de/

GUMPERT apollo sport sets new lap record for road legal cars on legendary Nurburgring Nordschleife to 7:11,57 min
(Altenburg/Nurburg)
It is August, 13th. The air has a temperature of 20 degrees Celsius and the sky is clouded. At 12:55 p.m. professional
race driver Florian Gruber (age 26) crosses the line of the Nurburgring Nordschleife and unleashes the 700 hp of his
GUMPERT apollo sport. He has set off into a race against the clock. His only objective: To break the record for road
legal cars on the legendary 13 mile racetrack, once felicitously entitled “the green hell” by racing legend Sir Jackie
Stewart. And to beat the existing official record of the Donkervoort D8 RS06 set almost 4 years ago.
7 minutes, 11 seconds and 57 hundreds of a second later Gruber crosses the line again. He has proven: The GUMPERT
apollo sport is officially the fastest road legal factory car ever to circle the Ring until today. With an average speed of
around 106,78 mp/h (171,84 km/h) the apollo was by 3,32 seconds faster than the former record holder. And – by the
way – more than 13 seconds faster than the Maserati MC 12 in 2008. ”And, well - I even could have gone a little faster”,
said the pretty unimpressed driver after coming back into the pits. And not even one drop of sweat on his brow after
the record lap. The apollo sport in standard factory specification was equipped with road legal MICHELIN Pilot Sport
Cup tires and an adjustable suspension by KW suspensions.
“The conditions were good, but not perfect – so we have still got potential to go faster”, concluded Florian Gruber.
From his point of view, the apollo has the potential to even break the 7 minutes mark. And Roland Gumpert, former
Head of AUDI SPORT and managing director of the GUMPERT Sportwagenmanufaktur, adds with a wink: “It is great that
we broke the record and that we were able to show the potential of the apollo – but at this stage there is no need to go
faster. We don´t want to demoralize our fellow competitors by now...”

So typical from Roland Gumpert. Obviously the competition spirit from the Group B Era is still there !!!!

Be careful what you say, the Caparo T1 has a roof and weighs less, has more power, more downforce and bigger brakes and the slower '07 model is 9s faster than a Gumpert on a 70s lap.:hihi:

The T1 is cool.

However the one and one (to my knowledge) measurement of acceleration is a bit disappointing. "Just" on par with the Bugatti Veyron.

Very quick, but not as quick as one would expect.

T1 610 hp
0 - 100 mph / 6,2 s
0 - 150 mph / 11,6 s

Veyron, without LC.

0 - 100 mph / 5,8 s
0 - 150 mph / 12,0 s

As tested by EVO.

I hope they can make it hold together and test it.

I'm sure the Gumpert can make a 7 or even sub 7 minute lap.
Some of the speeds measured are fairly close to what Gaute did in his stock BMW CSL, so there's room for improvement.

Fuchsohre is not so quick. Gaute was hitting 250 km/h in his CSL there (GPS)

Note that the 0-60 time for the Caparo T1 was 3.8s due to traction issues. This gives a 60-100 time of 2.4s (6.2-3.8), compared to 3+s for the Veyron. So about 1.4+s faster from 60-150mph.:hahahehe: So from a roll the Veyron gets killed and then there's the 3g cornering and 5g braking. To beat the Caparo T1, you're going to need a secondhand F1 car.

Could you get it working for a whole lap? ;);)

Just kidding! The T1 is in a different league, but isn't there a Gumpert with 800hp? Maybe that could knock som seconds of that time? :incar:

You could but crossing the finish line on fire will make bigger headlines.
