I'm sensing a 458 vs Balboni comparison test...

RXBG
July 29th, 2009, 14:08
458 kills balboni. sorry. weighs about 300 lbs less. and DSG.

this is a spectacular engine. NA, only .3 L larger than R8 V8 engine and puts down more torque than R8 V10 engine.

audi should make something like this.

i like everything about this car except the price.

I'm hoping for less then $250k base price (with options less then $300k),otherwise might run into trouble with wifey......

No comparison there, more weight, less power, no DSG.
Next Gen R8 need less weight, more power and DSG to come even close.

Wait and see what price Ferrari give the F458, I think you may find that the R8v10 and F458 aren't really competing for the same customer.

As for a possible R8 Mk2 and what it could possible bring as competition to the F458. Personally I think Audi are is a stronger position now that Porsche aren't pulling the strings, thought I doubt that Audi will try and compete against this Ferrari, it's true rivals control the £80-100k mark and no higher, above this is Lamborghini's playground.

RING TIME-

any guesses? should have no trouble with the ZR1's time imo. with that DSG- could very well hit 7:22?

Only if you can drive a car dry. 9000rpm with no oil will cause problems.:hihi:

The kerb weight of the Scuderia is 100kg more than the dry weight, so I predict that the kerb weight of this car will actually be 1480kg (100kg more than its 1380kg dry weight), which is only 20kg lighter than the full-fat, AWD LP560-4. Remove the AWD, and the Balboni will be 80kg lighter than the LP560 and ~60kg lighter than the 458.

Factor in the fact that the LP560 has nearer 600bhp in reality and there is a contest.

A remaped R8 V10 have 580 hp, the LP560-4 would not have much less than that IMHO.

good to clarify this stuff. so hard to standardize comparisons. i still put my money on the F-car.

will be interesting to see. i just really love how this car sounds on paper. a used one in 3-4 years vs new R8 V10 might make a good proposition.

Indeed. If it's as well sorted as the Scuderia but with DSG and more power, it'll be a diabolically fast car.

From what the specs say Ferrari now have moved on once again. Not sure about having three exhaustpipes though...

I wan't to see this go head to head with the lambo now! :revs:

The specs on this beast is quite brutal. Seriously. It's gonna tear the LP560-4 up but then again, i would love to see a head to head with the 458 and the LP-560-2... Still think the horse will win though. Cant believe they are pushing 570 outta that high revving v8...serious business.

As for looks, Im looking at a F430 spyder outside my office window right now and i think it looks better than the 458 in pictures. I really like the 4 taillamps in the F430 alot. I will have to see the 458 on the street before i pass judgement.

The LP-560 is no slouch acceleration wise. It's quite a bit quicker than the F430 and exactly as quick as the 599 (depending on which test) As you move up in performance it takes more and more power to increase performance.

It might be quicker, but I think the two will be comparable.

It definitely will be fast, but normally The Ring isn't the best place for the Ferrari. Propably because the suspension might be too hard. Porsche is testing all the time at the Ring. Ferrari at their own smooth track.

Anyway that car looks dream to me. Always been F430 fan and that looks amazing and specs are something unbeliavable.

Actually, Porsche also have their own track at Leipzig (http://www.trackpedia.com/wiki/Porsche_Leipzig) and here's a video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8zJsd3WZVVc) of a C GT on the track. The reason Porsche also test at the ring is that they know their cars are driven and driven hard EVERYWHERE by enthusiasts, unlike Ferraris which are generally bought by the very rich as a fashion item that one wears on their wrist.

Yea, I did know that they also have their own track, but your point is totally right. If new Porsche isnt' good at ring it is very big thing, but with Ferrari it isn't. www.supercarmovies.com does have very nice video of ENZO at the Ring and it shows quite nice that it isn't the best place for that.

Anyone noticed how small this car is?
If the tire size is 19" (which i guess) the car's overall length must be 3.7 - 3.8 m. Very short and not supercar'ish if you ask me.

What is a "supercar'ish" size supposed to be?
458 is slightly larger then the F430......
The length is 4527 cm.

It is? Haven't found anything about the size in the press release. If it's larger than my fault and apologies. In the photos it looks "small" and i meassured the length compared to the wheel size.

Supercar'ish is imo 4.3 m (R8/GT2/LP560) - 4.7 m (599/DBS/LP640).

All dimensions are in the press release. It is indeed slightly longer than F430. Wheels are 20".

I found it amazing at first, then I realized that figure was at very high rpms (6000rpm) so I figured the car to be very "peaky".
Then it hit me that 6000 rpms is barely 2/3 of the maximum (9000 rpm)....
