I could not disagree more with you mate...it's a matter of individual taste I know, but I REALLY like the overall shape of the car. I do not like the headlights though, they seem to be unbelievebly out of place, too modern for the overall shape of the car.

I love it .. an artful modern interpretation of a glorious classic, but that's just for me. I'm also expecting great things performance wise, this being the first Mercedes - HWA road car.

it looks confused and goofy. like its mother drank too much alcohol while pregnant. ...or something.

You can see there thinking behind this design

It looks an awful lot like the original...................but it that necessarily always a good thing.

lol. I think it's a hate/love design. I happen to love it. The original car is a classic design, and this car is a good modern take on it. Here's some new pics:

I have to agree, the new angles in these pictures are much more flattering. I almost like it now.

looks like a GTR banged the original gullwing and they had a child. horrendous. ghastly.

it would look better in a gunmetal exterior color with white or red interior. wheels need a more 3d deep dish design.

i'm sure it'll be a handler.

i'll just wait and see.

The 1st Merc for a long time that i really like.

I guess they had to do something about the interiour, as this one comes close to Audi quality and apperance

Frankly I think the TT's interior is better designed than this. There is nothing here to make it look special, something that is very important considering the price, plain like the old Z4.

Where as I love the direct Jaguar design is going I simply hate what Mercedes are doing now, with BMW's design going bad with Bangle at it's head of design and now Merc going the same way it looks like VAG has to hold the fort as the sole German brand producing interesting looking cars, both inside and out.

I do see how it's design mimics the old SL300 on which it's based but while the orginial car looks classic by todays standards the new one looks just plain. We aren't talking about a car from the 50 years ago but a modern supercar and as such people expect a futuristic interior/dash, i.e. like the R8, but here is a car that like the first Z4 tries to do a modern style plain interior which in my opinion doesn't suit what the majority of people want.

change the star on the steering wheel and this is a new camaro interior. materials look nice. but their execution is a C.

Are you sure about that?
A Mercedes can't be futuristic...

I really like that car and I think it will be a classic in 15 years

supposedly grips 1.3G's!!!

this review makes it seem like they are talking about the R8. only better. this is the truly the first car in the class that will challenge the R8 overall- luxury, comfort, driveability, handling, exoticness, and price.

can't wait to see the reviews.

R8 V10, F450, SLS, 997.2 TT oh yeah.

Don't get me wrong, this is a much better effort than the SLR which is plain awful looking. It's just that in my opinion if I was spending upwards on £200k I would be expecting something to impress me with it's futuristic interior which this simply doesn't.

Also, don't you think this retro thing has been done to death. The Mini, the Bettle, the Ford GT, the Camero, the Mustang, etc, etc, etc. It seem that when designers hit a mental block and can't come up with anything original they reinvent something from the past.

I now agree with you.

But it's the same for Merc CLS and his "nephews" Passat CC, A5 Sportback, new Jag XJ (a car that you like so much and I hate...;)).

So, no problem... The "futuristic" R8 V10 is for you and "plain" SLS for me... OK?

I don't agree with your example of the CLS and it's look-a-likes, what is happening there is designers adapting to a changing market. Additional sales aren't coming from conventional models but from niche ones, the X5 was a perfect example where everyone jumped on the bandwagon.

As for the XJ, I do like most of the exterior though the rear will take some time to get use to. No it's the interior which excites me, it's so far removed from what they have done before but at the same time it suits Jaguar's new found direction.

And the R8 vs SLS, I reckon more people will like the R8's design both inside and out than the Merc and will I agree it will become a classic I reckon this will more be down to it's performance and status as a hypercar than anything to do will it's design. The same could and will be true for the rest of the retro look-a-likes.

design wise the SLS will suffer the same fate as the Z8.

the Z8 is different and unique- some nice features like the rear LEDs. but in the end it is a weird, boat looking thing. strange and ugly.

the e-type. the original gullwing. the original TT. classics.

the SLS looks like a table with a motorcycle side car for a cabin in the back.

Same thoughts were said about the Gullwing SL of the 60's, except that also drives like a boat. Guaranteed collectors item status in the future.

Also, taking a liking to the SLR Stirling Moss....Mercedes really are upping the ante in exclusive vehicles over the last year or so.
