Hello,

does anyone know anything about upcoming enhancements for the R8 V10 e.g. super-charger like MTM/ABT offers for the V8 version?

Additionally i only found rumours about a RWD version of the R8...i really wonder if this is true and when it is going to be introduced.....if there was a RWD version i would have already placed my order....so for now i am unsure wether i should wait or go the porsche gt3(rs)/ferrari f430 scuderia way...if the rwd version of the R8 also would loose 200 or more kg that would be really awesome. I just love the 430 scud...at 1250kg its so awesome to drive.

The only rwd Audi you will ever see is a racing version because it goes against Audi's marketing philosophy.

Well there is already the R8 LMS version for GT series. But rumour says there will be a street-legal one (as counterpart to a gt3-rs and alike). I would order the LMS but since its not street-legal its not really usable for me. I dont want this to be a track-only car. I already have gear for that.

Well, since there will be a Gallardo RWD in limited numbers, it could be that Audi will offer the R8 with a similar system and sell it in much bigger numbers to somehow justify development costs...

If going the F way, wait for the F450...

I would except any R8 with RWD to surface at end of life, might be many years down the line.

Also, if you're into tuning like the MTM R8 with Kompressor I suggest you test drive it before considering it. I'm not saying it's a bad car, but it's expensive and it's sort of taking a high rec concept into beefy toruqe instead.

It would surprise me a lot of MTM or Abt did a Kompressor for the V10, I would be surprised if they are break even on the ones for the V8 yet.

I guess the RWD of the R8 LMS and the RWD of the Gallardo Balboa is the same. I mean they only plan to build 250 of these Gallardo's so it certainly would never cover development costs.
So...they have the gear and knowledge....

Qisha...now i only would have to know for which car.... :-)
I mean...if the RWD version is more than 12 months ahead i would go the f or p way now. Once they start selling the RWD i'll move there.
So...do we see anything like that within 12 months....or at all?

I already drove the V8 kompressor from ABT...and i really enjoyed it. But it would have been even more fun if it was RWD and maybe a little lighter.

The F450 is apparently beeing introduced this year but i guess the first deliverys wont take place untill late 2010 or even 2011. And untill there is a scuderia successor it will probably even take longer...

Jonas, have a look at this. From my test drive of the MTM R8 (and RS6).

Erik,

i guess the MTM R8 and ABT R8 can easily be compared...and i guess they are almost the same. The ABT R8 was really sick in 2nd gear...alot of power there when i was turning onto the autobahn...wasnt quite expecting that kick-off :incar:
Anyway...you cant compare it to a 430 scuderia. I really want something from audi that can atleast compete with a 430 scud. If it can beat it...even better :race:
Did you ever test-drive one? I just love the sound at 5k rpm....below that its a bit less noisy than a normal f430 but after that its just insane.
Makes your neighbours wake up on sunny sundays once you hit the gas :hahahehe: :burnout:

Am I the only member here a bit confused as to why Audi would need to develop a rwd version of the R8.

It's already shown itself it be among the best, possibly THE best overall supercar currently made, so why shift to rwd just for the hell of it.

The RS6

It will sell, and maybe the guys from financing need a way to cover probably large amounts of money invested in creating a RWD Gallardo...

Waiting for the follow-up model based on the RS6 engine...

http://www.teknikensvarld.se/styling-tuning/nyheter/071123-mtm-r888/index.xml

888hp
0-100 in 3 seconds
top speed 369

....and thats with the V8-engine.

What can MTM do with the RS6-engine?! 1000hp?!:applause:

RXBG

would a full 556 hp require any more venting? perhaps not. maybe they found a freaking way to cool a SC engine back there or even a TT? god help all supercars being made if they did.

just a follow-up: my dealer contacted 2 persons within quattro (sales+engineering) both replied that there will be no RWD R8 anytime soon. so for me things are clear now and ill rather go a different way and maybe change to a RWD R8 once its relased...some time.

oh and by the way: the diesel version was canceled, no V12 for R8.

The R8 v12TDi was cancelled more than 8 months ago but the last I heard was that there would be still a TDi version in the future though it's unknown as to which engine would be used.

they may have simply found a way to get more power from the engine NA/ maybe 580 hp. perhaps this mule we see is the last "hurrah" for the R8 before replacement. the cabrio will be a 2011 MY. this one would be a 2013 MY.

Have you seen how many Gallardos that have caught fire, maybe more power and heat isn't exactly a wise idea.

not sure any gallardos that caught fire were stock. usually turboed afaik.

besides- the LP560 doesnt have any more major cooling vents than the gallardo but has a sig bigger engine and more power.

so no, i don't think a mild hp bump to the NA engine will make it burn.

I don't know whether any or all of these Gallardos are tuned or turboed, but if you are right then that would put a lot of owners at ease.

But one thing it does prove either way is that there is little scope before things turn ugly.
