In my mind the ultimate Audi R8 have a new 2.5 litre Twincharged inline five cylinder engine with 708 hp.
The car will be light weight with manual gearbox (no R-Tronic)
The twincharged R5 will not have turbo lag and produce a awesome sound like the legendary Audi 90 quattro IMSA GTO and Sport quattro S1 Pikes-Peak.

But making a car like that need a new lower engine block because the R8's (and Gallardo's) have a driveshaft through the lower engine (V8/V10) block that connect the gearbox with the to the front centre axle.

If i had deep pockets i would develop this car and give it the looks of the V10 with the wide side blades.

one can dream. perhaps this will be the formula for the next R8. i am 100% sure the next R8 will be designed from the beginnning to accommodate a rear mid engine charged engine of some kind. i DON'T think it'll be much lighter, but it WILL have a magical quattro system and a DSG option that will make ring times and such world beating.

i DON'T think it'll be much lighter,
1625 Kg (R8 V10) is to much for a sports car.
The next R8 must be at leased 125 Kg lighter.

I know it's not light, but while driving it in the alps, it did not occur to me to be too heavy :hihi:

But maybe it was the weight, that "flattened" all the passes and not the sheer power...

knowing audi it'll be relatively heavy because it is a luxury and sports car in one. but this can be overcome- see GTR.
