View Full Version : I finally put some miles on the car...

What can I say, it's everything I had expected and more. I've only put 100 miles on it since delivery but they were alot of fun.

I drove the S6 right after a long stint in the RS6 for comparison. The S6 feels more relaxed in a normal driving situation. Much of that can be attributed to my desire to restrain myself and wait for breakin miles to expire on the RS6.

The biggest difference so far (remember breakin mileage) is the brakes. The S6 brakes are good but the RS6 brakes are impressive.
The steering in the RS6 is much heavier at slow speeds and it takes a little muscle to get the car around a parking lot in comparison.

I have 35 series rubber on 18" tires on the S6 and the ride is noticably rougher and less compliant than the 40 series rubber on the RS6 18" tires. That roughness could be attributed to the Bridgestone S-03's on the S6 with 15K miles on them compared to the new Dunlops on the RS6.

I really like the Daytona Gray/Ebony package. The dealer has a Black/Ebony RS6 up for bids on the showroom floor. With both cars side by side (sorry no pictures) at delivery all of the ~30 people in attendance preferred the gray because it showed detail better. Gray looks more aggressive by comparison.

those are the kinds of comments i need right now. now my dealer says i'm looking @7-10 MORE days:mad: come on. i'm starting to get a wee bit impatient. knowing that you guys are out enjoying your Beasts helps a little, but then again, it makes the waiting a little bit harder at the same time. you guys enjoy, i'll be there soon:cheers:

It is even worse when you pick up your car on the weekend and have to leave Sunday night for a week long business trip. This really bites! Like tasting forbidden fruit, then having to eat fruit coctail from a can.

Gofast,

That's the bad news. The good news is, when you get back and drive it again, it's like getting the car new again! Driving again after an absense is such a treat.

Benman,

I hear you. I got absolutely crazy in the last couple days. I finally lost it with my salesman about 1:30 PM the day of delivery. The car showed up at 3 PM. LOL All I can say is, keep the faith!

One fine looking machine your're driving there!! Glad it's working out for you and thanks for the comparo to the S6.

Hey GoFast, bummer about the canned fruit cocktail LOL LOL (no TT on this trip either?) But, that first start up and drive upon return is going to re-ignite the love affair with the same vigor as the original!

Hey Benman, hang in there. I hated the last few days waiting as it consumed my whole "being" with anxiety, frustration and patience. That will all be like a bad memory when you sit behind and drive away the beast, and trust me, this will happen. Look at it this way, you'll always have less miles (more value) than those of us who started the break in before you :D :D

Hey Finnus, glad to hear all is well with you and your machine. Get that V1 hardwired in yet? I'm using my 8500 and it's so ugly with that chord down to the ashtray - yech!. Wrecks the lines of the dash! Gonna try and get this done this weekend and do the lidatek the following week.

FEVR,

I have to call my dealer to schedule installation of my lidatek. They're going to pull the instrument panel and mount the light so the cops will never see it.

Let me know how you make out with the hard wired V1.

They suggested mounting the window unit V1 up behind the mirror and running the lines around and down the frame around the windshield. I'm still sitting on the fence with that one.

How true that is!

I went on a business trip a couple of months ago to the USA (LA then San Francisco) and rented a Chrysler Concorde - now I don't want to criticise you Americans, but why can't any of the rental companies do decent German cars?? Failing that it would be nice to rent one of the more interesting US cars like the Dodge Viper

Mind you that wasn't the worst automotive experience on my trip - my business colleague rented a Chrysler PT Cruiser! Talk about slow and noisy:)

The best part was getting back to Heathrow and picking up the RS6 though - it just seemed unbelievably fast! Absence definitely makes the heart grow fonder... I'd love to have tried the RS6 on Highway 1 up the Pacific coast:)

I rented one of those a couple of years ago in Canada - drove it from Calgary to Jasper and back in the snow and ice. Great fun, but an awful car to overtake anything in!

When I came back from NY, my RS 6 felt so fast after driving a rental Taurus. I should have tried to tempt the pilot into a "You can drive mine if I can drive yours" deal... :D

Hey Finnus, ... Get that V1 hardwired in yet?

FEVR,

I'm going to get my Lidatek installed the week after Labor day at my dealer. I feel better having the dealer do this rather than some hack ... My dealer made the lidatek installation sound like a pretty involved job because of the lack of space in the engine comaprtment.

I'm going to have the installable V1 put in at the same time (assuming they have one) to avoid duplicating the installation costs... I'll post a new thread when I find out if they do - I'm going to call them right now ...

Just checked: V1 is not installable! Sh-t!!! I guess I have to rethink using V1 ... Maybe Escort.

Am I correct in thinking that the Lidatek is the same device which is sold as the Target LRC100 in the UK?

I just installed mine last weekend. I bolted it under the cross-member behind the front bumper, and it peers out through the centre top diamond aperture in the lower grille - just below the number plate. No cutting involved, and minimal obstruction to the cooling. Damned hard to see from more than a couple of feet away.

I'm planning on getting it tested with a 'friendly' laser gun (an LTI 20.20).

Peter,

I don't think so. Lidatek is the company, the LE20 is the model. I purchased the option with the twin sensors. I think they have to be unobstructed, so there will be some cutting involved. I think the sensors will be mounted in the upper corners of the lower center grill.

Hmm. Compare these two, then.
lidatek (http://www.lidatek.com/specs.html) and

Peter,

It does sound like the same jammer. Let me know how the test with the friendly gun goes.
