So much praise for the V10 in that interview. Excellent

I am amazing that some people still insist that a supercar should somehow be difficult and demanding to drive and that is why they don't rate the R8 that highly. Thankfully DR don't agree with that train of thought.

Maybe the answer is that no one can accept that Audi of all people have built the Ultimate supercar.

Interresting Hockenheim times:

Lambo LP 560-4 1:11,3
R8 V10 1:11,9
R8 V8 1:12,7

That's a bloody good result from the R8 V10. Hockenheim is a tight demanding track which isn't really a power circuit like some others, this explains why the improvement is small between it and the less powerful V8 model, but it's also got a greater wheelbase than the Lambo which will be better suited to the tighter turns on the Hockenheim track.

I would expect that on a track with more flowing corners it might well pip the Lambo.

First I have to say, damn these articles from Drivers Republic are good! Amazing pictures and very well written. Big thumbs up! :0:

And for the car? Well, Audi has just done it.. Again. If I had an hat I would take it off and bow down.

And for you lucky bastards who got yourself one, enjoy it!!

Let me correct these track times little bit...

Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 1:11,3min Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires

Audi R8 5.2 FSI 1.11,9min Pirelli P Zero R01 tires

Audi R8 4.2 FSI 1.12,7min Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires

Audi R8 4.2 FSI 1.13,4min Pirelli P Zero R01 tires

For comparison...

Porsche 997.2 Carrera S 1.13,4min Bridgestone RE050 N1 tires and SPASM

Porsche 997.2 Carrera 4S 1.13,9min Pirelli P Zero N2 tires and SPASM

Wow! that just begs you to wonder what the V10 can do with Corsas... very impressive considering it has less power than the lambo and is heavier!!!

Indeed... Time around 1.11,2min is possible for sure...

Current champs:

Porsche 997 GT2 1.09,7min Michelin Cup N0

Porsche 997.2 GT3 1.10,4min Michelin Cup N0

I would definetely expect something in that region. Any thoughts on when we could get an answer on that question? ;)

Dear Friends,

during R8 5.2 FSI development Frank Stippler lapped the Hockenheimring in 1:11,0min on regular tires. On the Nordschleife a 7:38,0min was achieved, also on regular tires. :race:

Frank is one of the quattro GmbH Testdriver for years now and he was also involved closely with the R8 LMS development. :incar:

I would expect Horst von Saurma can match these numbers with race tires... and Frank will be within the Porsche 997 GT2 range. (NS ~7:33,0) [Walter Röhrl achieved a 7:31,0 with the GT2]

Prospective the R8 5.2 FSI with LP560-4 output would be under 7:30...

Qisha

But the real question is whether Frank is as good as Suzuki. :hihi: (add joke here).

No on a more serious note, this is an incredible achievement, especially when you consider that the LP560/4 in the hands of HvS only achieved a 7:50 which was equipped with the right tyres on that day.

So what you are basically saying here is that the R8 is actually as quick as the GT2 and all this without sacrificing any of the luxuries normally associated with Audis. Oh and another thing, it's still bloody brilliant in the wet as well, something that can't be said for the Porsche.

P.S.
Now that we know just how good the R8 is (not that anyone doubted this fact), could you please tell us just how quick the TT/RS is in Frank's hand. :hahahehe:

It may help convince us that the £10K is money well spent. :thumb:

well, based on Q man's information, if the R8 V10 had an unrestricted full power output of 556hp it would be as fast around the ring as the GTR. what is not clear is what tranny was being used when Stippler achieved these times. if it was the r-tronic i suspect that the car would be even faster with a manual. if it had DSG it would be faster than the ZR1!!!

this insinuates that in order for audi to best this R8, the next generation need only incorporate one significant piece of engineering- a DSG. and perhaps for marketing purposes a more fuel efficient engine (which of course leads into a whole host of other things.)

if audi comes up with a H.O. version of the V10 it will be insane.

if only Qisha could tell us what he knows- i'd reserve a nice quiet little table for two somewhere, and order a 1950 Margaux to make him talk!

I'm with you on that - but i'm thankfull for every bit of information we get from Qisha

Under the circumstances, that he has to walk a thin line between what he knows and what is acceptable for Audi to give out.

All these recent reports about the V10 make me even more anxious about my fastly approaching Audi driver days with this beast. :R8kiss:

Alps - here we come :R8:

What , are you suggesting that somehow Audi would do something remotely as dishonest as cheat. :nono:

Erik,

If is wasn't for the fact that this is your site and you allow the rest of us to post here I would be shouting for a 6 week ban for such blasphemy. As it is, good call and I agree with anything you say. :D
