I think it's amazing looking, better than I thought it would be but a bit disappointed that they stuck with front wheel drive, this almost certainly means the Golf R20 will be the same.

Maybe the XDS differential can control the excesses of torque steer but on bumpier/rough surfaces it will still require a lighter foot than would be the case with an S3 or TT/S.

Any word on price?

I don't get it. So VW is going up against the Focus RS with no real diff, normal suspension and 40hp less... for probably more money. I bet the Renault Megane RS will make it look like a Granny scooter.

Is it not possible to make the Scirocco 4wd ? I actually thought the R was..

It looks brilliant, has the fantastic 2.0T engine. This car will sell for sure, AWD or not.

Though, with AWD it would be even better..

This is an attempt to beef up the Scirocco in the wake of the new Golf GTI. According to Autocar, the Golf R20 WILL have 4-wheel drive and I suspect more than 261 bhp to counter the extra weight.

I'm an AWD kinda guy, but that said, the old Integra Type R is still one of the very best drivers cars... so, if VW does the set up correctly, this thing will perform just fine.

When you consider how well received the normal Scirocco and new GTi Mk6 then I have faith that VW will deliver with the Scirocco R. Though I share the opinion that I would have preferred awd but this would make it too close of a rival to both the TT/S and S3.

Most UK mags believe it will be priced around the £25~26K mark. That well below the TT/S so if they had offered awd the price would still have under-cut the Audi by a minimum of £4~5K for basically the same car and I might add it doesn't have as much appeal and status.

I look forward to a test drive when released.
