View Full Version : V10 rs6 reliability

I am looking at the V10 RS6 as an alternative to the ML 63 AMG. How reliable is this car? Any thing special to look at if buying used? What mileage mpg/l/100km have you experienced on highway?

My only Audi experience is of a 1998 Audi S4 Avant from years ago and that was not reliable...

Any info/advice is hugely appreciated!

:addict:

Anyone? All help is appreciated. I have found relatively little info about this cars reliability...

I haven't had any issue so far (8,500Km). The are others with many more Km on the counter. A friend of mine is at 30,000Km without any probs so far.
Highway consumption is good, if you are relaxed you can easily see 15 lt/100Km.

Well,

Its not actual C6 related but Audi has come a long way since the 98 models.

I currently own a W211 E55 as yours and a 03RS6 with no reliability problems what so ever. If I could get my hands on the C6....I would buy it.

I have heard gas mileage concerns with all of the AMG 6.3s. We will not even consider another AMG with the 6.3 for that very reason. Plus, the 5.5 is faster with good mph. You will not have those concerns with the Audi. MPG will be double of the 6.3 AMG if not more.

kind of a big difference between a ML and RS6.... I wouldn't think that they would be comparison vehicles. Ultimately, the C6 RS6 is just too new but there doesn't seem to be any initial reliability concerns.

I cannot speak to the new RS6 per say, but my 07 S6 with the V10 5.2 liter is going on 2.5 years of ownership with zero issues currently at 17,000 miles. I have had to replace only the brake pads and motors recently due to wear and tear which was pricey - about 1020.00 Euros at today's exchange rate to the dollar.

holy smokes, richard, you've already got 17K on the S6?

I know they are not a true comparison, but if you will look at them from another perspective, you will see my point.

I loved my E55, but here in Finland there were constant traction issues and we had a very snowy winter. The MB dealer is high class also, and for the first time ever I have been satisified with a repair shop. The ML63 is surprisingly fast and the only AWD MB available and it is going to be here still for a few years. I loved it when I test drove it, but the ride hght is a little too high and I really dont need that much space or off-roading. This is why I am looking at the ML63.

Audi and BMW dealers have disappointed me time after time with their absolutely horrible knowledge of exotic cars. The other problem has been that Audi always brings the RS models at the end, before the A6 model is renewed. For the first time I think they brought a package I like, and it came relatively soon before the model upgrade (barely). So it would take a lot for me to go on the Audi side, but this new RS6 is just so nice, and the consumption seems to be better with these TT-engines. As I am also now getting an idea that this RS6 seems to be pretty problem free, I have to think about it. I was a BMW-man for a long time so everything is open.

Here is just why I also love the ML63, on that said, I still like the new RS6 more...

I didnt get very good mileage on the E55 also, and when I test drove the ML63 and C63, I got very similar figures on the highway to my own car. The ML63 uses more in the city, however.

Traction on the snow will continue to be a problem with the ML but not with the RS6 (at least the C6).

Moreover, comparing the looks, the aerodynamics of the ML are comparable to a wardrobe on a free fall over a cliff :D but of course that is a personal taste :rs6kiss:

I dont understand how traction is a problem with any awd car, I have never experienced that. My friends 996 TT had no problems the whole winter. With the E55 I couldnt get into my garage. The Ml63 has plenty of traction in the snow, the problem is that it is an suv...

You have a nice car! May I ask what is your mean consumption at the moment? I just want get some kind of reference. On the E55 it was 15.5 l/100km average, but about 13l/100km on the highway. So it seems the RS6 consumed a little more? Then again it has over 100 hp more :)

Not really apples to apples.

6.3L to 4.2L :argue:

I do like the RS6+ vid but your looking at a 6yr old car to a new one. :vhmmm:

Now, bring on big brother C6 and slap it up against the ML and we will see some WWF Smackdown action. :hahahehe:

The V10 RS6 is faster, no point to compare. I didnt show the video to try to boost the ML or say that the old rs6 is slow.

Somebody asked my how can I even compare the new RS6 and ML63. I showed it to prove why it is one possible choice for me next to the new RS6. It is surprisingly fast and the only AWD MB (ok there is the ugly R63...). I am just trying to make myself convinced about the reliability of the new RS6 before I even consider it. If it would prove to be an unreliable car like the E60 M5, I would be fu%¤ed here in Finland with incompetent workshops.

I also have to add I dont believe in videos posted on the internet, videos prove nothing, they are just fun to look at.

One thing I also wondered about was when EVO magazine UK dynoed the ML63( 503bhp in the UK), Cayenne Turbo (494 bhp in the UK) and RS6 (572bhp in the UK). The results were also very surprising they were: 511, 524!, and 486,4!! BHP respectively. They said that it might have something to do with the gearbox in the RS6...

Wierd!

Yes, that much already, which in comparison to the my TT is not that much considering it already has 13,000 miles on it and is only 10 months old. Yet compared to the A8L W12 which after 4 years has only 20,500 miles on it. It's all relative.

I know a young lady who has a standard C6 RS6, that went to a Dyno day yesterday, and the beast performed very well, actually producing 584bhp, which is 13 more than expected.

I was not there but Grizz was. I expect like me there were some surprised faces that the new Audi actually does more than it says on the tin!!

Good stuff....:applause::thumb:
You can read the thread here http://www.rs6.com/forum/showpost.php?p=157460&postcount=1

Sometime soon I will get mine on the dyno and I'll post the results.

How bad is your consumption tuned? Highway vs. average?

i see no difference before/after tuning. only if you hit past 280km/h it will eat more...of course.

Hi, sorry to hijack part of this thread, but I'm curious as to how you like your S6? In particular, is the ride as stiff as I've heard?

As it stands now, I'm thinking that an S6 like yours would be a good candidate for next vehicle. Any comments/praise/criticism/comparisons about your car would be appreciated! TIA.

I have had one issue with my V10 RS6 and that was a tube burst from cooling system. they put new tube in and no issues since (now 10k KM).
Consumption shoots up when driving excess 180km/h. Stay below that and average consumption should be around 11 litre/100km. But then again do you buy an RS6 for its consumption??
