I came across this item on eBay and thought of sharing it with you, I don't think that will fit our C5 RS6s!! ,, Is that can be easily fit them?

Seems too small to fit. Also rear end looks refurbished. Too much dirt on it for 8500 miles.

I doubt ratios would match up well to an RS6, due to the difference in redline (8,200rpms) between the two vehicles. You would still need to swap the block on the RS6, as well.

AndrewWhy the hell would you need to swap the block? You need a crap load of different driveline parts yes, but I'm not aware of a block in the equation of a swap. As far as gearing, the 6spd would still work quite well with the RS6. The differences in gearing between the 6spd manual and the 5spd geartronic are marginal with the manual providing a slightly better first geat, but the auto providing better gears through second and third. Ultimately it would be the automatic running quicker quarter miles and the manual running higher speed top end. Oh ya, and the manual performing better for fuel mileage and downshifting efforts. It would be my preference to have, but alas Audi didn't feel they had a transmission in their group of parts to mate to the 4.2TT back when the RS6 was released.

If you look at the bellhousing, you will see it's about 2x the size of any manual transmission Audi, this is due to the extremely large torque converter used in the RS6. If you want to bolt up a traditional Audi manual transmission, you will need to swap the block per MTM to match up the bellhousing, otherwise it's custom fabrication time. I was also told the output shaft is different and needs to be changed.

You do realize the 03 RS6 transmission has a 3.197:1 final drive versus 4.11:1 on the 08 RS4 transmission and the rear would need to match? So the EXACT opposite of what you said is true regarding the transmissions. Assuming you went with the 4.11:1 ratio and changed the rear in the RS6, you would hit a lovely top speed of 160mph with your new RS4 transmission, versus almost 200mph (theoretically) with the RS6. I have no idea if it's even possible to change the front diff in the RS4 transmission to match the 3.197 of the RS6.

Like I said, you can fabricate, or you can do it right.

as far as I am aware of this after repairing my gearbox, the 07 RS4 gearbox is ridiculously too little for fitting on a rs6. And as AndrewNC said, the ratios are different. You would have to change a lot of components, but there is one which doesn't exist to fit on a RS6, the output shaft which came from AudiSport on a special request.

Well I'm not in a position to put debate to any of it as I don't have the parts in front of me, but suffice to say I would find it hard to believe Audi would have performed special tooling and fabrication for the extremely limited number of units to create a one off block for the RS6. Mind you the tranny is specific, so weirder things have been known to happen. What I do know is that anybody that hot rods knows that you can mate pretty much any manual transmission up to any engine block with the introduction of an adapter plate. As for the size of the RS4 tranny, as long as it has strong enough gears/syncros/shafts/bearings, and as long as you can get the appropriate clutch for your application in, then why wouldn't it fit? Bigger horsepower engines don't mean bigger clutches.

Anyway I didn't buy my ride to tear apart and hot rod like I've done with numerous rides over the years. Although I personally miss the manual shift I gave up from my previous sedan, I'm more than happy with 5sp Tiptronic.

The RS 6 block IS a one-off specialized fabrication, silly AUDI. I too miss my manual trans but love the Tip.

Isn't the block made by Cosworth?

The block is definitely one-off. I've got one sitting in my garage right now.

The debate is swap block and crank or try and custom fabricate an adapter, 10 blot flywheel with the correct ring pattern and clutch. All of this to consider without adding length to the whole system.

I've got a 2000 A6 2.7T, the RS6 motor and accessories and a 2002 S6. I'm a glutton for punishment.

At this point, if I cut my losses, I've at least got a 6 speed S6. best case has a Frankenstein 6 speed RS6 Avant.

btw, here's the difference between the 2.7T's flywheel and the RS6 flex plate.

http://www.kendrish.com/galleries/A6/engine/fw_vs_fp.JPG
The RS6 flex plate is around 30mm larger in diameter.

I'd have to swap the crank due to the 10 bolt flange vs the 8 bolt on the non RS6 4.2. (RS6 study guide states that the only difference between the crank is the bolt pattern on the flange.

If anyone is interested, I've got all the parts handy. There have been so many urban legends about the RS6 block, etc. I can help clear some things up now.
