I've carfax'd it and most of it's warrantied service was performed at Stevens Creek Audi in San Jose, CA. After that it spent some time in San Francisco.

It has light grey interior.

THanks

This car is/was on ebay right? You can see that the rims have too much negative offset but not sure if these rims are strong enough for the RS.

Is this car close enough for you to take a first hand look?

What about some specs? mileage? price?

yeah. it's on ebay:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2003-AUDI-RS6-TWIN-TURBO-NAVI-XENONS-HTD-SEATS-BOSE-PDC_W0QQitemZ290303907567QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUS_Car s_Trucks?hash=item290303907567&_trksid=p4506.c0.m245&_trkparms=72:317|65:12|39:1|240:1318

75k. Asking price $22,900. It was an auction car. Not many detailed service records after 50k. Apparently, some one the dealer talked to dug up that it had timing belt and control arms done at most recent service, which carfax lists as 73400 miles. I called the dealer, www.royalmotorsales.com, that is listed for that service and they won't give out any info. Of course, it may've been a sales tactic of the dealer.

I was recommended to have Continental Audi or CPT, Chicago Performance & Tuning, in Chicago do a PPI. Continental suggested Schaumburg Audi across town because it is only 5 miles from the sales lot, whereas Conti is like 30. CPT is 18 miles away, but a respected indy shop familiar with RS6s.

A tech at Schaumburg said he was familiar with the sales lot of Exotic Motors and that average would be nice to say about them. He also seemed pretty familiar with the DRC problems and fix coming up, as well as the tranny issues. He said that he's worked on (replaced) the trannys of about 6 out of 25 that they service.

From the view in this pic, is your stance on the offset the same?

Thanks for any help.

At that price. If the 75k timing belt has not been done....its a pass. If you can verify the timing belt....then its not too bad.

The brakes are shot and your looking at rotors and pads already.

50-75k is the prime range for Torque Converter failure. Then its almost a sure thing over 75k.

That dealer has a less than stellar record.

I assume that an inspection can't verify the timing belt.

How do you know about the brakes?

A PPI would tell me a bit about the t/c, but a warranty would be a must here then.

Which dealer are you referring to? Exotic Motors (which the tech mentioned as average would be a nice way of putting it), or one of the Audi dealers, either of the dealers from the original post?

Some of these things could be excellent bargaining chips. Doesn't sound as if the car is a skip just yet, provided a warranty is involved.

Thanks for the help.

i can check it out for you... that's about 15 minutes from me.
is there an address to that dealer?

I would say a "PPI" could verify the timing belt replacement. I think you can tell the difference between a belt with 40k and a belt with 1k. IMHO

You have to ask specifics on your PPI.....or you will get the once over and done. hint

A cover needs to be removed to visually inspect the timing belt.

Brakes.....just look at the pic of the front wheel. See that rotor surface that looks like the waves off Long Beach pier? Shot, plan on rotors and pads.

Yes, Exotic Motors is hit or miss. Dont believe anything they say but personal inspection is the only way to go. I dont know how much you can low ball here. Low 20s seem to be a hot spot for quick sales. I see the ebay auction is quickly getting to that point.

If Terry is close....thats your best bet. ME to ME is generally safe.

not too far away. found the address.

i've hear good and bad things about exotic motors.
i can definitely check out the car and verify the basics.

want me to take a test drive too? you may want to contact the dealership and let them know that you'd be sending someone to test drive it :)

A good test drive is always the best. Does it feel like an RS should...is the boost working...thrash the trans alittle. Then if it looks good...the PPI

That would be great! It would let me know if it's even worth shelling out the 300 bucks for a PPI. Any info gathered would be very helpful. Please don't go too much out of your way though. I appreciate the offer, let me know how it goes.
Thanks.

Sorry, I didn't get back to you sooner. I got sidetracked working. A test drive would be great.

Thanks Terry!

Hmmm, if im not busy Saturday i may pay it a visit (one to see how my DRC feels compared to it). Definitely have the techs (Al or the Schaumburg tech) check it out though...plenty of bushings, CV boots, timing belt, and other things that you will want someone to look at. PS, my rotors even when not that worn are wavey as hell.

How did this car turn out. I was watching it on ebay. It looked like a great buy.
