View Full Version : Help needed: dream alpine routes?

roadrunner

Hi gang,

I'm thinking about something "crazy" for my birthday - getting an RS Audi and taking it for a 3-5 day spin.

Goal: pure driving pleasure :incar:

Plan on driving most of the time and need some routes that are worth the"effort".

Can you recommend any (mountain) routes in the Bavaria, Austria, Italy, Switzerland quadrant.

I would be strarting from Ingostadt :hahahehe: and return there as well.

Look forward to your suggestions

Dear roadrunner,

this should be something matching your goals:

Thank you Qisha,

we are thinking along similar lines:

my plan was to pick an Audi driver's day package (3 days) and extend it by 2-3 days.

A friend might accompany me (his preference would be the R8 5.2 - prospect buyer), while i am undesided between the R8 and the RS6.

have driven the R8 already - exceptional machine without saying - especially on a race track :thumb: Can only imagine it in the mountains.

But the RS6 is very tempting for me as well, after all the C6 is my dream Audi lookwise (leaving aside A5, R8 which are beauties) and called "the beast" for good reason.

The basic point is - the accomodation packages are not my primary goal - the maximization of driving time & pleasure for a "reasonable" price is.

decisions - decisions :vhmmm: :MTM:

Small update: nothing finalized yet BUT I thought it through again AND

Alpine passes + RS6 vs Alpine passes + R8 was no brainer after all = :R8::R8kiss:

@ Qisha: i inquired about the "Nach oben offen" package + extention days - waiting for the replay
( http://www.audi.com/com/brand/en/experience/audi_driver_s_day.html )

To give you an idea what i have in mind:

I planned a five-week road trip for this summer, and found my most indispensable source to be Google Earth. Download this and click on the little blue boxes that show up everywhere - they're all photos. This way you can research for yourself, see the roads (it's all overlaid on maps anyway), see the scenery, etc. Of course, others' advice is guaranteed to do you well, but a little self-planning is good too!

No big secret - can be found on the Audi page:

Audi driver'S day package "Nach oben offen"
http://www.audi.com/com/brand/en/experience/audi_driver_s_day.html

in German:
http://www.audi.de/de/brand/de/erlebniswelt/fahrerlebnis/audi_driver_s_day/einzelbucher/nach_oben_offen.html

640,- EUR + extention days

It is the equivalent of a 2 week family holiday - BUT

- There are two of us
- How often do you have your 40 birthday :dig:
- Is there a better present for an Audi "die hard fan" (as KresoF1 would put it) :D

Life is too short :incar: :R8:

Roadrunner... looks amazing

Considering taking the RS6 over from the UK to Germany for a week, doing the same as you.. sightseeing and fun drives, bit of walking, some geocaching etc etc ..

Wondered how you went about booking the hotels / picking the routes

Some one advised my that the "romantic road" was worth driving .. Wife would love to see the Chitty Chitty Bang Bang castle etc etc Any comments from folks ?

roadrunner
June 18th, 2009, 09:30
Gdavison - it was more than amazing :D

How we went about to plan it:

1. googled for alpine passes
2. put them on google maps to see where they are located
3. planned daily routes
4. planned stay over places
5. looked for hotel recommendations (e.g. tripadvisos.com)
6. boooked hotels online

When i put my report together, i can give you some more details - but if you have some more questions right away, feel free to aks.

One thing i would do differently in your position compared to our route - do less than we did. Your wife will thank you and the experience will be not smaller :0:

Before i forget - i highly recommed that you do the trip with your beast :addict:

Erik, we had a good "time sharing" concept: most of the passes - i was the uphill guy and my friend the down hill driver.

And it is not that bad as a co-driver - you just have to find something to hold on to :hihi:

And you HAVE TO drive them one day - it is unforgetable (either with a RUF or an R(S) Audi)

Hi Mr
Not sure of dates or duration yet, however would be happy to get your input :thumb:
Any heads up guidance would be appreciated, so I can check it out before hand
As for a meet sounds like a good idea, perhaps we should consider extending this to a broader group, (states can't have all the fun)
A meet or a run  now there's a germ of an idea

If it was outside Traube, than it was us. Would have been really nice if we could have met. But as we are at least once a year near Wörgl, maybe we can arrange something next time (i will be with an Audi, but not with that beaty & beast)

Staller was just insane - for all that don't know it - the last "few" Kilometers are ONE WAY with traffic light regulation = NO oncomming traffic, just what is in front of you, if anything :D

@roadrunner - yes, outsind Hotel Traube :-) I was looking at the R8 quite a few minutes - well ... it's really a pity, that we hadn't met there ......... anyway.
would really be great, when we could arrange a meeting.

for trebor's trip - well when I can give you input - you can contact me anytime - for my mobile phone nr. or so just pm me - or when we could arrange a get together or sth. like that - count me in.
