Had a great conversation with a contact at quattro GmbH today and learned some very interesting things.

We were talking about the RS5 and he mentioned that it will have pretty much the same normally aspirated V8 as the B7 RS4, but with about 450 hp.

One of the limitations on the B7 RS4 was the challenge of getting enough air in and out of the engine - that it was pretty much 'choked' in the B7 RS4. There's just not enough room in the engine bay to deliver as much air as the engine needs to produce all the power its capable of, and not enough room for a proper-sized exhaust. The B7 RS4 has one throttle body and one air intake, and the RS5 will have dual throttle bodies and three air intakes - one of which will open only at above 5000 rpm. It 'should' also have a larger diameter exhaust system to help with the exhaust flow. Different engine management will also help with the power.

The throttle body conversation intrigued me a bit. He said that the RS4 throttle body measures 90mm and that the RS5 will have dual 70mm throttle bodies. Potentially one could replace the dual 70mm ones with dual 90mm ones and re-tune...

There will not be a B8 RS4, only the RS5.

The TT-RS will be different than other RS models before it, where it will be completely assembled in Hungary. All other RS models have had some portion of their assembly in the Neckarsulm plant.

I also picked up a few goodies, including "the last set of factory RS4 emboidered mats in Neckarsulm" :) , and some Euro tail lights that blink orange instead of red.

Audi sucked up at this big time !!! no B8 RS4, and a NA RS5. audi is not "vorsprung durch technik" they are moving backwards with that. i hate to say that. but if there will be no B8 RS4. iam out of the game :(

Agree with no RS4 comments, just a weird thing to do.

No B8 RS4 would be insane, and therefore i don't believe it.

Especially in the current economical conditions, driving an RS4 makes less of a fuzz than driving an S6 & A8/S8 to the general public = smaller = less expensive car

Not mentioning all the prospect buyers that need/want 4 doors (=Avant & Sedan).

Only time will tell, but i sure hope this one is a misinformation.

I am sure there wouldn't be a B8 RS4, as there was no B6 RS4. They have enough RS cars on the road this year: RS6, TTRS and probably the RS5. Not to mention the R8's. Too much to work for Quattro factory.
After the A4 facelift (2010-2011) - the B9 - then the RS4 will come. It seems pretty logical to me.

The TT RS is not a quattro GmbH built car, It totally get build in Gyor.
That leave only the RS6 for quattro GmbH.

Well we have all been speculating that for quattro to increase their production volume would require another production site and that speculation has prove to be correct.

I don't see a problem with that as long as development follows their normal pattern as all other RS models.

i dont like that fact. the 4.0TFSI would be much better. gas mileage or emission. thats not "vorsprung durch technik". So there must be a RS4. i expect it after the B8 facelift (like as B7 RS4) ???

...?

I can agree with you that RS 4 will maybe be released with B8 facelift, like RS 6 sedan was with C6 facelift, but it sure want be renamed in B9...

Bogdan

maybe it won't be renamed B9 , it doesn't matter. But my guess is the RS4 will come after the facelift. Of course, in this present economical situation, all bets are off and only Audi's marketing people should know when and if.

I did a search, and did not get an answer.

What is the current rumour, will there be RS4-version of the current A4? If yes when? And is it rumoured to be TFSI or NA?

I thought there would be in NA ca 450 hp Avant only, using developed version of last V8 with optional 7 speed S-Tronic. But there seems to be some rumours of no RS4, just the poser coupe (RS5). So I'm confused, please share some light, if you have a clearer picture.

The only thing for certain is that the RS5 will be launched in both coupe and convertible forms, after that it's a guessing game. I also doubt the launch of a saloon, the American market is in a dreadful way and nothing is selling in great numbers, as this was the reason for Audi developing a saloon version of the previous RS4 & RS6 I doubt they will be rushing to release another any time soon.

I personally can't foresee that much development require to turn a RS5 into an RS4 Avant, most of the changes would involve suspension tweaks so if they did decide to release an RS4 version then it could be done within a matter of months from greenlight to production.
