I've had no luck searching the forums in regards to aftermarket turbo upgrades for the 4.2 Biturbo.

Has anyone out there developed anything or have any theories as to what will work?

Some background:

I've undertaken a big project trying to put an RS6 motor and B5 S4 6spd into my 2002 S6. If you have comments as to whether I'm crazy or have any encouragement for me, see: http://www.motorgeek.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=25176&page=100

I want to keep this thread focused on turbo alternatives, since I've already go the RS6 motor and the 6spd, but haven't bought turbos yet.

Since the car will need a custom tune anyway, I think it would be cheaper to buy non-stock turbos and try something different. Since I'm using the 6 spd, there might be more room for exhaust plumbing (wastegates & DP's), etc? I'm just beginning to think about this so any ideas would help. Thanks.

Is this an upgrade or just the stock stuff?

Let me guess. Motor from Scott Mandu. How did that work out for you? I wanted to purchase that motor as a spare, but couldn't get any confirmation whatsoever on some extremely important details for a transaction worth that much money (i.e. compression both wet and dry). Quite the project. Would go down the path of putting a manual into my car if I didn't have so many other projects on the go. Wanted to take the Audi motor, mate it up to a porsche tranny, and put it into a track ready NSX. Had everything calculated out at a 2400lb ride pushing 550+hp. Just ran out of time and effort for trying to get everything confirmed. Best of succes with your project.
