I bet we may hit 10 RS6s for this event/ride. The route is classic and I have never driven on that section of roads much less run around So Cal.

Now that we have a place in AZ were close enough to make some trips over to CA to see the area. This is one of those trips.

Were coming over from AZ so its nice to see others making the effort to bring this all together.

Nice.

Well, it will be nice to see all the RS6ers. I do not think SCC Audi guys know what treat they are for that Saturday.

UPDATE... My car is making ZERO boost as of last night, and stumbles when you step on it. It's at the dealer this morning to see if they can fix it quickly, I hope it's something minor. :-(

Further Update - Apparently it's a fuel pump control module that is not directing the fuel pump to provide the necessary volume of fuel under load. And, natch, there is not one of these parts in the country.

So the pics are up, here are just some of my favourites...

From the left... Nick, Jason, Steve, Me, Justin, Dave, and Dave

<img src=http://pictures.twilightstar.net/d/24262-1/IMG_1590.JPG>

We had quite a few R8s turn out, earlier in the morning, we thought there might be more R8s than RS6s.

<img src=http://pictures.twilightstar.net/d/24304-1/IMG_1607.JPG>

Some random lady's 356 Spyder.

<img src=http://pictures.twilightstar.net/d/24352-1/IMG_1625.JPG>

Nick's awesome hood.

<img src=http://pictures.twilightstar.net/d/24382-1/IMG_1637.JPG>

two of the three RS4s that came out.

<img src=http://pictures.twilightstar.net/d/24481-1/IMG_1675.JPG>

Big brother and little brother!

<img src=http://pictures.twilightstar.net/d/24490-1/IMG_1678.JPG>

Need, more, cooling!!!

<img src=http://pictures.twilightstar.net/d/24487-1/IMG_1677.JPG>

The RS4 bay is in my opinion much better than ours... However, the carbon fibre in the RS4 yellows!

<img src=http://pictures.twilightstar.net/d/24520-1/IMG_1688.JPG>

Ouch! I'll leave it to Justin or Dave to explain this pic ;D

Everyone-the day was EPIC! The cars were awesome. The route was just fantastic!!!!!! 90 miles of some of the best back roads the Santa Monica Mountains could provide. Quattro gmbh would be proud. We are heading out today to drive the route at a normal pace and have lunch in Malibu. (Wife wants to see the route).

Greg-I will send you my pics this week. No way are you selling your car! Take a weekend and come over to my place and we can wrench on it. Set up the shocks and detail that bad boy.

Justin-sorry about your car. It could have been much worse. Your car is immaculate and glad it didn't get any body panels. Guys-I didn't push him in that corner. Really. :-)

John-sorry you could not make it but it was a real statement to send your best friend and his daughter. They were great and I must say. You are really giving the love to that RS6. It looks great. I think the next ride will be in your area. Look forward to meeting you.

Nick- your car is awesome. Wow is all I can say. Not a speck of dust on it.

Well, we are off to go on round two.

Hey, guys. What a great day we had on Saturday! It was a pleasure to meet you all in person, and so much fun to see so many beasts in one place.

In case you didn't know, there was a guy taking pictures on one of the corners above The Rock Store, about 20 minutes into the drive. His shots are available on Flickr, and here's a link to the page in his set that starts to show our cars.

Looking forward to another opportunity to throw my RS6 around. (How great was Latigo Canyon Road, by the way?!?) See you then!

Jason, great meeting you as well. I was talking to Richard on Saturday and it seems that most of you guys have not done the standard Julian route, so we may look into doing that (and honestly, as fun as this past weekend was, I do prefer Julian).

In the meantime, I am also researching into different routes around Julian.

DWD, I was looking at the SCC Audi calendar and there is another gathering on the 15th of March (I think) to Borrego Springs, which, has a lovely road that I used to ride my Ducati on called montezuma's. Nice twisty hill and grippy! I talked to Holiday (Ross in SD) and he stated that he was inclined to join on that ride.

Great photos also!

Next time the King of all Audis: My Audi A8L W12. Herbert needs to go for a nice run. Of course, he'll bring his "staff" along to make sure he isn't roughing it too much. Someone has to clean his rims at all times, and you know, only bottled anti-freeze will do. And of course he will have to have his own portrait taken. No sharing pictures with the 'common' Audis, you know like the R8s and RS6s. :hahahehe:

Take a look at this beauty. No DRC problems for me...look how flat that sucker is. I was on it when he hit this shot.

I think I can see my wheel wells shining under there. :thumb: Doh, inside joke. LOL

South central CA up in the mtns. We went right by today on our way home to AZ. It looks pretty good from my viewpoint.

This route is a an easy task for me. We just come right over on I-8 from Casa Grande.

Yeeks,

This was a very close call. There could have been much more damage. I swear I didnt clip Justin in this corner. :incar:

And yes, those are the actual tire tracks in that corner. Look at that big rock up about 3 feet. It was literally inches away.

DuckWingDuck
March 3rd, 2009, 04:57
ultimate, that was another reason why I wasn't such a big fan of the malibu drive as compared to the julian drive, it's got a much rougher surface condition.

richard - borrego springs is north east of Julian!

http://www.twilightstar.net/greg/borrego.png

The SCCA site is also vague about the route, so I have no idea about how fun the route is... It seems like just an excursion out to Borrego to take some pics of flowers. In that case, let's just go to Carlsbad!

Ok,

Here we are loading up at home, then at the campground for staging then two shots from the route.

All I can say is.....Guard rails, what guard rails. Quattro all the way and "right turn clyde"

Did you go off roading?

The only off roading should be on a ice covered golf course with studded tires and learning to slide....

Way too far for me. We can design a new route for Julian from South of Valley Center. Then we can go north to Valley Center and stop at Harrod's and proceed to Julian as usual from there.
