:addict: Hi
Any one out there know the correct way to put snow chains on an 08 RS6 Avant. I have read differing opinions, some say both front wheels, some one front & opposite rear.
Any ideas, all help welcome.

Cheers

Only one in front or back is just bullshit in my opinion!
Snow chains always have to be mounted pairwise.
If front or back might be easily checked with a look in your manual.
Front imho.

Front IMO, but please consult the manual. Please drive carefully with chains!

Yes, keep it under 200km/h with chains!

Hi Guys.
Thanks for all replies. Manual does state rear wheels only!
I think the RS6 will be left at the hotel and the Q7 used for the mountain roads.

Cheers

Ah, problem. Scrub last post. There is a second arm on the rear wheels, chains can't fit there...
Still need help.

Thanks

Hi every one.
I have sorted the solution today. Took most of the day.
Chains will not work on a V10 RS6.
Solution.
Spike Spider.
Swiss made fit outside the front of the wheel and grip over the tread area. Nothing goes behind the wheel.
Problem solved. Does fit 20" rim.
Thanks every one.

I went through such investigation a while ago and ended up with: biathlon on front wheels only (http://www.carmate.co.jp/biathlon/eu/) (http://www.carmate.co.jp/biathlon/eu/)

Back wheels have too small clearance with the DRC piping and another part and only "socks" can be fitted.
On the test run, biathlon was acceptable even on paved surface and guaranteed to run on paved surface for hundreds kilometers.

Spider spikes have only the "sport" model for our size (275/35/20) which was too bumpy on the test run. Moreover, I was afraid that it would come in contact with the splashboard while on a turn with shock in compression (eg while driving into a bump).

By now I've installed winter tires (dunlop winter 3D) and I'm pretty sure that snow "chains" will remain in their box.

Hi Michalis
Thanks for the info. I have ordered the Spider Spikes for this trip. I do not intend using the RS6 that much in the Alps. I will also have a Q7 with me for the snow.
I will let you know how the Spiders run.
It is really only the ski resorts I need spikes for. The rest of the journey will be all motorway. Let the engine have some fun.
Cheers.
