I'm not sure about the design either. Have to see it in real live. But would choose either the S8 or the RS6 anytime over this one.

Funny how the car reminds me of the Volkswagen Concept D

Qisha,

I must agree with you, it does look better in these video chips where the car is moving around and not static. But I did notice that in all of the video clips they either don't dwell on side on views or don't show it at all. It here where the Panamera looks at it's worst because no matter how you package something, when it's 5 meters long there is no hiding it's length, this is a seriously long motor car.

Another thing, why only four seats? Will they offer an option for those looking to carry five people, I would have considered one up until this turn down but now I think it's a white elephant which is out of touch with today's market, which is a shame.

I am going to say something that the designers among us will probably be nodding in agreement.

A design which grows on you over period with stand the test of time longer than one which is instantly liked, though there are exceptions to this rule on both counts.

At the moment I am not 100% behind the design but feel it will be met with more approval than either the Cayenne or X6 has received.

At 95,000 euros this will appeal to a very limited market, not only does it have the ugliest rear end in the business but a price point which had my laughing out loud. That equates to £84K or looking at it another way, that's £10K more than the RS6, nearly £18K more than the M5, both of which look a million times better and quicker to boot.

If the Boxster and Cayenne were the saviour of Porsche in the nineties and the turn of the century the Paramera could be the one to land them back into difficulty.

P.S.
I love the choice of audio. :love2:

Hmm... I am not fan of Panamera's design but I admit it is very unique car a la Citroen DS in the past...

Performance?

Look VERY carefully at Panamera Turbo numbers...
4806ccm/V8 Biturbo DFI
500ps/700Nm
0-100km/h: 4.2s(with SC Plus ON 4.0s)
Max: 303km/h
Weight: 1970kg
CO2 emission: 286g/km EU5
EU fuel consumption: 12.2L/100km

So, at least in straight line NO chance for RS6...

How the hell can be this car so much faster in straight line than RS6??? It weights the same, all wheel driven also, has a smaller and less powerful engine that cuts off 0,4 sec from 0-100km/h? That sounds very strange to me!:eye:

Well, the turbo Panamera is expensive, so-ansd-so looks and "only 500 PS" - however, the interior is okay, the quoted acceleration is impressive (especially 0-200) and I am sad that say that on the twisties this will most probably kill not only the M5 (traction) but also the RS6 (balance).

BTW, 0-200km/h for Panamera Turbo is 13.9s...

That gearbox really does the trick, very good times for both 0-100 km/h and 0-200 km/h. Even more impressive is the torque from this thing and the gearbox in combination, Porsche engineers knows how to do it.

Would be very interesting to see a dragrace between this and the RS6 sedan. Just to see how big difference there could be.

Leadfoot
February 13th, 2009, 22:25
Porsche are usually conservative with figures so if Kerso is correct then a realistic time of 13.5s could be possible. But how sure is that time because it is incredible for both the weight and it's output.

I'm expecting the Panamera to pull clear at higher speed of over 140mph where I believe aerodynamics will play a key role. And I am expecting it to out handle all comers but then at nearly £50k more than the RS6 would you expect anything different.

More and more I'm convinced tha Panamera is great product for Porsche..., and only time will tell was I right.

One thing that worries me is level of quality that Porsche will ''feature'' on this car. If they go the 911 ''route'', then it will be OK, but if this gets some of the Cayenne ''gene'', specialy the early ones 955, then...

Cale24
February 16th, 2009, 08:18
Wow, those are impressive number indeed! And as you guys say, Porsche are often conservative with their performance numbers. BTW, my brother saw 4 Panameras last week, followed by a new Cayenne (with lots of equipment on its roof) driving along the coast in Cape Town undisguised. They all had colour-coded wheels apparently and looked pretty good on the move. No idea why they're here, possibly some new publicity pics (maybe for Porsche Tequipment brochures, etc) but we often get to see some nice new metal down here. Saw Sl65 Black Series prototype lightly disguised over a year ago and also a 599GTB long before it was officially released (seeing a Ferrari with 2 instead of the usual 4 tail lights was pretty exciting at the time) :)

AndyBG, it's strange how when i first saw pictures of the Panamera, i thought it was ugly. But now the design has really grown on me to the point where i would say it is actually a very good looking car. Of course, dynamically, i think it will be sensational and totally blitz the Quattroporte.

It's got to be a great car, simply has to be, because the looks sure as hell ain't the thing that's gonna sell it !

I just hope it looks much better in person, because on these pictures...ouch :nono:

hmmm.. well look at the others.. A8 might look better. S-class looks almost as good or a little bit less. 7 series - no comment. Aston Martin Rapide, ok, the porsche will have no chance design wise...

for its segment I think its looking just fine and the way it should to sell good

For those of you who have seen the Panamera in person, can you provide us with some idea of how big it is Is it a massive car or just a bigger version of the 911. In some pictures it looks quite compact. In others, it looks bigger than a Bentley Flying Spur.

Dear tailpipe,

the Panamera is Audi A8 sized. Slightly wider, almost as long and a touch less high.

Looks best in either GT silver metallic or Carbon grey metallic. I do like the Mahagoni metallic as well (very dark brown).

As mentioned before, it looks best in person but it is a 50:50 decision... like it, or hate it.

I like it.

Hello Qisha,

Thanks for your post about the Panamera. I like the way it looks very much too. I think it is going to be an exceptional car, because so much of what it offers will redefine the sports saloon category, e.g. hatchback practicality. Dynamically, I also expect it to offer excellent performance and handling balance. I have never been a fan of the 911, I dislike having the engine so far back. Whether this view is shared by others, the Panamera seems to offer everything. I think it is going to attract a lot of new buyers to the brand.

(I just tried to send you a PM about the next RS4 but your mailbox is full, perhaps you can delete some messages so that i can check a couple of facts with you?)

I think the Panamera looks best from the front, front view looking down the side and directly from the back. Though from directly side on it's at it's most ackward.

Interior wise I really like it a lot because it's traditional with lots of buttons and dials instead of the minimum look caused by the MMI/i-Drive. I wish they offered five seats as I can't compromise the expense and not allow all of the family to travel with me.

It look like the Base Panamera can get Audi's new 3.0TFSI Supercharged engine under the bonnet.
It's doubtfull that Porsche will use the 3.6 VR6 engine.

Yeah that's correct.

Yes. You're right about the 3.0 litre engine. But what Porsche is most interested in is the new 4.0 litre V8. It will deliver current Panamera outputs with a fraction of the emissions and much better fuel economy. As you can imagine, however, Audi is reluctant to share the technology that makes it's cars so desirable. Unfortunately it may have no choice. With or without Audi engines, the Panamera is a stunning car. Time will tell, but I think it will become the benchmark that BMW's M5 used to be.

I also like the front but the back really isn't my cup of tea - yet. Time will tell if things work out better IRL. At the moment I'm curious how the facelift will look like, which really isn't a good sign.

I agree, the front looks good but the back is hideous.Porsche finally had the chance 2 design a car without any restraints & this is what they came up with? It is very disappointing.
