I am very close to buy a 2007 RS4 sedan. I have 2 choices: one with ceramics and one without.
I have friends with B7 RS4 and normal brakes and they change the discs and pads pretty often. What I don't know and maybe someone here can answer me is how long do the pads for the ceramic discs last and how much do the pads cost? From the p[erformance point of view I know ceramics are the best and the discs can last up to 100 k miles, but what about the pads????

Go with ceramics
The technology is advanced and suits all-year round usage of the car...

Hi Bodgan
Had the RS6 C5 with standard set up
Now have the new RS6 C6 with Ceramics, comments
Expect ceramic discs to last way longer than steel. Audi expect >200,000 km, went through a steel front set on the C5 in under 50,000 km

Ceramics
-No fade under heavy breaking, infact bite better when hot
- Heavy rain, takes a little while to bite but fine
- In the rain C6 periodicaly actions pads to dry against disc, you can't feel it happening, not sure about RS4 set up
- >17,000km so far, not a mark on the discs, pads no noticable reduction so far

$16k just for the front? wow...

doesn't brembo or stoptech make carbon rotors for the rs4? and is steel to carbon consider an upgrade in performance?

I already have my new car, with ceramics. What can I say, the all around performance and the hole package makes this the best drive ever for me. And the ceramics..........wow. Excellent, with the only point that in heavy raining on the autoband, you need to be carefull when you first press the brake pedal, until the discs dry a little. But in rest, the brakes are perfect.

I've never seen one either, till I bought one. I wasn't so excited first, when I saw the pictures, but when I was standing next to it....what can I say, is right up there with the black and dark grey in my book

So how have you been finding the car? hows the breaks been?

Bogdan

I found this car on the net in Germany, the car was from an Audi manager, very few kms. The brakes are as expected - exceptional- with a small minus in heavy rain when you need to be a lot fermer on the brake pedal cause the RS4 doesn't have the RS6 system that keeps the ceramic brakes discs dry by pressing the pads against the discs from time to time. But this is a very small matter that I'm going to get used to very quickly.

Hmmm I thought that the RS4 did this over certain speeds, it states this in the RS4 manual!....I hope it has this "feature".

I was driving on the autoband with 120-130 km/h and it happened everytime I needed to slow down.

The manual says it has that feature. I have heard though that ceramic brakes need a split second to heat up and bite so that may be the reason you need to press harder initially.
