It seems like a ''finished deal''...

thanks man. it is exactly what we have been saying around here. and it makes a lot of sense. watch the MSRP come down too, not to mention anull the need for a gas guzzler tax. the 335i will have no chance against this car in price or performance since i am also sure it'll get the sport differential! i suspect the RS4/5 motor will be almost identical to the new S6 motor- and as such will make about 480 hp and be extremely fuel efficient whiLe having a fat torque band. this is what audi does best.

i can't wait for these changes to take place.

Lokks like that ''all mighty'' 4.2l V8 is going to be retired after all these years...

it's not the size of your engine, it's how you well you can use the one you have. :hihi:

i had that engine for 3 yrs and i did not miss its heft or gas consumption. was not a bad engine, but the V6 sounds exciting. in its form in my R8 the performance makes up for the fuel consumption. i bet the upcoming 4.0 V8 TT gets put in there in place and gets better gas mileage.

Times change and clearly world polictal correctness has determined this move to more economical alternatives. The fact that this new smaller engine is quicker as well is an added bonus.

But you have to remember I was told about downsizing well over a year ago and things move slowly in the mighty clogs of industry. The next big thing will be hybrids and then alternative fuels.

I'm just glad to see the weight coming down, especially at the nose.

Just one potentional problem-fuel consumption of new S4 is according to ALL tests by several German magazines not ANY lower then on current V8 S5. In fact AMS stuff was pretty dissapointed with that fact...

Interesting
How could it be that v6 3.0 cosumes no less than v8 4.2?

AMS is a anti Audi Magazine.
Saying the 3.0TFSI is not any better then the old 4.2 V8 is right in there alley.

Does AMS like BMW and Porsche?

it's damn near impossible to keep any magazine non bias to one brand or another. Sportauto are usually not bad but some of the results they have produced on both the ring and hockenheim suggest that some of their test drives are better suited to the behaviours of rwd chassises than awd ones.

We must be realistic here..., as I said in some other posts..., these cars are performance and fast, for that they need fuel. I don't know how can anybody expect them to be economical. 4.2 and 3.0 T both have 330 hp +, with that amount of power you have to ''feed'' it with, at least, 15-20l of fuel per 100kms. My expiriance says even more!

Model - 0-100km/h - urban l/100km - highway - extra urban - co2 g/km
Audi A6 3.0 TFSI quattro – 5,9s – 13,2 – 7,1 – 9,4 – 219
Audi A6 4.2 FSI quattro – 5,9s – 14,8 – 7,5 – 10,2 – 244
Audi A6 3.0 TDI quattro - 6,8s - 8,9 - 5,4 - 6,7 - 179

Again Andy, noone expects this 3.0TFSI to be economical, but Audi said many times it is supposed to be a more economical engine than the 4.2 it's replacing...

Same thing with that 335i test...noone expected them both to spend little, but Audi should spend less...

That's my opinion...

it is clear fact that the 3.0T will NOT incur a gas guzzler tax.

enough said.

I agree with you, its just that Audi stated economy as one of the main features of the 3.0 T, while in practice it consumes allmost the same amount of fuel as 4.2... Audi was talking abut some 30% less, if I'm not mistaken.

I would imagine that new 3.0TFSi WILL be a lot more economical if used in Government figure style driving or in long journeys but driven the way we so often do there will be no real saving.

Remember the Topgear test of Pirus vs M3, in that test the M3 proved to be the more economical.

I imagine the 3.0T will be quite a lot better in everyday driving. In a race track environment, the difference becomes smaller.
