Have VW start to replace the 3.2 VR6 with the 280 hp 3.6 VR6 FSI.?
The Phaeton is the first car that get the engine change 241 hp 3.2 VR6 (old R32 engine) out and 280 hp 3.6 VR6 FSI in.
The rumour is that all 3.2's get replaced by the 3.6 or a other engine in the near future.

More importantly, does this mean that there's a 7.2 W12 on the way?

A few year's back there was a rumour about a new 540 hp 7.2 litre W12 FSI engine based on the 3.6 VR6 FSI engine.

Makes sense to me, the 3.6 VR6 is everything the 3.2 is, but better. Some say the 3.6 will be replaced by the 3.0T in the Q7/Touareg/Cayenne. Or at least the Q7 might get it when it is facelifted.

I hope only the Q7 will get the new 3.0TFSI supercharged engine.

Porsche will probably "borrow" it and stick it on the next Cayenne (Q5) I don't think the Touareg would get it, until the next generation.

i dont think porsche stops audi on putting their own engine (3.0 TFSI) in the Q7 ;-)

In these times i really don't think anyone will create a 7.2L petrol engine :)

Cheers Jarod.

What's actually different between the two other than the looks and maybe a remap?

The R36 version have a compleet new oneven length intake manifold, where the 280 hp version have the 3.2 style switsable intake manifold.
The new manifold give the engine 20 ponies more.

Jarod,

Have you heard word on whether or when the TT and A3 will receive either of these engines?

Jarod,

Have you heard word on whether or when the TT and A3 will receive either of these engines? There was info floting around saying that the TT would get the 280 hp 3.6 VR6 engine the same time the RS would be introduced.
But the last few weeks it's quiet about that.

Personally i hope we will see the 3.6 VR6 engine very soon in the TT.
